how can you tell what nationality he is? he could maybe be a Taiwanese pilot training in France.
I never mentioned nationality, Burger. You brought the subject up instead.
PLAN will never get a operational carrier as long as PLAAF and PLA continue to view just a means to invade/blockade taiwan and not as way to project power, If RoC situation is solved both the forces will probably will cut PLAN spending and desolve it.
I think you’ve not quite had your eyes opend yet.
IMHO, in the eyes of the ChiComns, Taiwan is but a piece of cake.
Therefore, I suggest that you be just a wee more immaginative here — this
Chinese built up is not geared towards the Island. It clearly serves as an insurance policy
of sort (deterent if you will) against something much more gigantic.
:diablo:
Repeat after me: The Varyag will never be operational.
Good.
Again: The Varyag will never be operational.
It is the equivalent of a floating hulk, it serves as a static educational experience only, thats it. Not only is it not fitted with any mission equipment to speak of, the hull has deteriorated to the point where it couldn’t possibly be fitted with mission equipment anyway.
Just don’t bash yourself over the head with it if and when it does
steam out of the Dairen yard in full gears one of these days. I mean nobody will pay
the money they did and then goes through all that red tapes to get it released from the
Black Sea just so that they can use it as a research speciment.
:diablo:
You will have a hard time explaining those photos as Mings, given the cylindrical shape of the hulls.
I mean, why couldn’t these be “West German Mings” Crob??? I’m open to the possibility.
Maybe they’re making a zoo like Noah and now taking the food onboard
Hmmm… Zoo??? Noah’s Ark???
Not a bad idea actually! If so, I guess that means
an opportunity of a lifetime for them to add more speciments to it that
have deep attachments to zoo’s such as Noah’s ark.
Don’t you think that’s a good idea???
Well pictures of 6-8 newly built or building SSKs are taken in the past year, plus the 8 Kilos, that is already a lot of SSks purchased in the past few years. (8-10 Song/Song A/Song G, 1 Yuan and 8 Kilos)
Sources ”deemed reliable” suggested the target is
somewhere between six to eight 094 by end of decade. Given the resources
China have now days, this number is not impractical.
095??? Where did you get that from?
Chatters… Chatters only, Hyper…
It’s not even made the rumor stages yet… Source: WMF, China.com,
other but similar Asian sources…
have a clearer picture as to how much China’s naval power and reach.
Naval Power Reach:
“China’s power reach should not be the object here.
Rather, her ability to prove outright that she has the means to
nutralize threats from afar and retaliate in kind, should.”
You must understand, with unstable characters such as Kim Jong Il at
the helm, and modern day VC’s to add to the picture :diablo: , a powerfull deterent against
nuclear blackmails posted by entities such as these becomes a must.
I believe China has cranked up her engines in this area and is
now full steams ahead towards achieving this very goal. In fact, by her revelations
of the last three years, it is unquestionable she is making good progress and
that she may even be years ahead of schedule in this endeavor.
Question of Carriers:
IMHO, Chinese carriers, when they will eventually make their debutes,
would serve more as a status symbol for the PLAN rather than as a stragetic tool
of naval warfare as most people may have been programmed to envision. Why do I see it that way?
Carriers make for a gigantic bragging rights, and — unquestionably — A LIABILITY!!!
I for one suspects that we will be seeing at least one indiginous
Chinese carrier launch by 2008 to coincide with the Summer Olympics. The Varyag may
also be operational by then but utilized more as a training vessel.
My 2 cents.

China emerging as a maritime power?
But they have so many obsolete warships in desperate need of replacement, if China was to engage another maritme power such as the U.S, I think those ships would make very little difference in terms of technology.
First things first: Why would you presume the Chinese would
lock horns with the US and have a face off with America at sea? I mean,
couldn’t the attraction be quite the opposite, i.e., becoming allies with one another
and pool their resources to maintain world peace instead?
I for one would wager on the latter because they will
emerge as entities who will have to face the realities of interdependency
upon each other’s growth to survive – economically.
In other words: Like it or not, outsourcing is a reality of the 21st century
and your kids and mind will one day have to settle for Boeing, Shanghai, or General Dynamics
India, after they’ve graduated if they wanted to follow their career paths.
As for China’s obsolete naval forces: I thought “The Sum of All Fears”
have given all of us some very good and almost accurate indications of where technology lies in the
21st century — on medium and long range anti-ship and other missiles.
:diablo:
– 093; lead boat launched Dec. 2002, second reportedly launched late 2003.
Apparently, you’ve forgotten to include in that roster
the two 094’s which was speculated to have also been launched. One was
said to have been launched in late ’99 the other in 2000.
Also, chatters of a wholely new class — the 095’s have surfaced…
The Yuan Class, how good is this subamrine when compare to Collins class?
Latest Magazine Ad on Yuan Class:
Don’t know what it means, but, the claim is that it (Yuan) has
“exceptional depth capabilities”, and, it’s proven exceptionally quiet. But then again, that’s
characteristic or consistant of tones of the Chinese language.
Example: A recent rumor says that some PLAN General had claimed that
there are currently a total of at least 14 nuclear powered subs in the PLAN’s inventory but,
that’s for each of us to digest and believe. Far fetches??? Who knows!!!!
In Chinese; take with salt but I wouldn’t write it off as BS either.

I’d keep an open mind on these things – even if sceptical.
.
I’m talking about your pic of the two subs that were being assembled in your August 29th post. I don’t think that place is Chinese.
Sorry for the confusion, Crob. I thought the link you’ve enclosed
was the one of a waterfront somewhere, hence the mix up. As for the
yard where the two subs are being put together, it is intriquing isn’t it?
Still no concrete answers however. Not even a smoking gun.
I’m not sure if that shipyard is Chinese.
Well… It’s either a cool piece of photoshopped works of art or it’s
some East Asian waterfront somewhere if it’s not Chicomland. So, who else builts subs in Asia?
Japan? South Korea? Taiwan maybe? Singapore? Vietnam, Who??
Anyway, notice the Oriental characters visible on the side of
that center apartment??? Also, notice the tugboat that’s guiding that barge
along??? Suggestions: That sub is being ferried somewhere?
Probably taking a look at its construction (cutting, etc) its not like they can do anything else to it.
:diablo:
Wanna bet, Vympel?
Hypothesis: How’s about as a “real live sea-going experiemental speciment” for a first hand feel of flat deck landing and take off’s for their flat deck pilots to be and for studies for their naval engineering department while the wheels of their home-mades are humming and going strong???
Assumptions can and has been proven very very wrong sometimes…
:diablo:
:diablo:
I’ll second that bottom pic…

Curious: How stealthy???
