Mao broke with Khrushchev, not the other way around.
Not according to Mao! By his account, or so goes the story anyway, it was a wedge driven apart by the phobia Khrushchev have for China – or the stigma of Yellow Peril so to speak.
The Soviets withdrawing technical support to the PRC can be attributed completely to Mao’s switch to Maoism rather than Marxism-Leninism, and blatantly telling so to the Russians.
Again, other sources, western one’s too mind you, described the situation as due solely to Soviet revisionism or their appeasement to western pressure — Khrushchev’s words verses Mao’s words…
If there is one thing China has shown since the breakup with the USSR around 1960, is that it was NOT capable or even seemed interested in a continuous and uninterrupted supply of military goods.
Strangely, the pipeline stopped on its track come the MiG-23s and 27s. The rumor was that they had to ship one, covertly, from Egpyt to be used as a speciment and as reference for the development of a number of indiginous projects all of which never got off of the drawing board of course. They tried, but all they had then was a hammer and some rusted up nails to work with.
Also, indigenous developments in the PRC, despite all the efforts of the last 15 to 20 years, have still failed to field any modern combat aircraft.
Well… If we are talking about the latest and the sharpest of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, I agree they didn’t make much headway. But, Taiwan’s efforts at the IDF/F-CK and their later aquisitions of the French Mirages and F-16s tells a story — it says the J-7s can and does post a formiddable challenge. The next generation of Chinese, my bet, can and will be counted as leaders in the field. Present Chinese progress in these areas are indications of the things yet to come for the Chinese.
Also considering that Indonesia had Tu-16s a purchase of Tu-22M3s by China or India or Indonesia is not that strange.
After the experience she had with the USSR in the 50s
and 60s, I think it’ll be a mighty long time before the memory of reliance on
imports will be wiped clean from the minds of the Chinese…
I mean why subject yourself to be scrutinized continuously
if upgrading of existing systems can and will do the job while in the same
time indiginous development can assure a continous and uninterupted
supply regardless of the affects of where politics might be???
The US doesn’t like the Russians helping the Iranians with their nuclear power plant either and apart from rhetoric nothing has stopped that.
Legitimate argument and — here’s proof…

Eventually, bankers will have the last says…
A few Squadrons of Backfires would make sense for the Chinese if they are serious about Taiwan as a deterrent to US Naval forces.
Seriously… plenty of talks, Yes! But, I doubt if there’ll be any real
actions there. Hypothesis: The Chinese aren’t about to turn the Island into no inferno no matter what.
They are not as monterous or as ruthless as many of you may envision.
Why so you asked??? Taiwan is Chinese! They simply won’t incinerate it.
Plenty squirmishs; limited and confined air and sea “contacts” and “incidences” — possible; but, all out war on
the account of a few “One-Borned-Every-Second” Isladers??? No Chance!!!
But, the exploitation of Taiwan as a tool of China containment is something even the blind can see…
:p
The Backfire-system is a high threat system against USN CVNs. The USA will do all possible to prevent the delivery of such bombers to China and India.
From a strategic point of view, your analysis (high threat system…) is indeed
sound and logical judgement. Example: As gestures in the 2002 thriller “The Sum of All Fears” , the Tu-22
Backfires indeed is not something anyone would consider screwing around with.

not ming!.ming are tiny sub’s.these sub’s are much longer’s..but not song either.new class of sub’s.well it’s look liked it’s true china going use the sub’s as a first line of defence. nobody is building this many class of sub’s.and they want to buy more russian, even german, france and everyone who want to sell them state the art sub’s.
Pic in question:
The hump or the raised section
of the sub where the towers are sitting
on can clearly be distinguished…

My guess: These are either Kilo Class from Russian yards;
the newer and recently revealed Yuan; or, possibly, even that of the Han’s (091) replacement
better known as the 093 which too sports a huge hump.
Other Far Eastern pics and updates:

Hmmm….. Will they put this thing out to sea again, ever,
make use of it as a live experimental speciment, or is this simply going to remain a
reference item for their research and development needs???
๐ฎ
I am brave enough to take this challenge! ๐
The Magic 9 Ball tells me… that you are looking at a couple of Ming Class SSKs under construction, being passed off as Song SSK! Beware the cheap tricks! :p
Ming Class SSKs:
Could well be. However, the word I’ve been hearing is
that they’ve stopped putting “Mings” together eons ago. My speculation
is that, this http://bbs.china.com/images/2004-09-04/1094288355001.jpg instead is
what could be if it’s Chinese. Notice the distinctions? The screw? The implications here
says that it’s either a sneak preview of the 039 or of the newer a 04X.
Mings, on the other hand, sports an almost
wedgy U-Boat-like characteristic while the one’s in question here seems
to say that it’s cylindrical or of a cigar shape.
However, could these be something others than Chinese???
๐ฎ
Well…
It’s unfair to place the blame solely on this guy. I mean, as a
responsible publication, “Global should at least bear 99% of the blame for publishing it in
the first place” and for maintaining it for as long as it has”.

Who knows for certain what’s going on…
Damn…
One minute, it’s hope.

The next, despair. How Sad…
Damn… No Trekers here to get the AFM SETI community fired up???

Silent Running: ‘Black Triangle’ Sightings on the Rise

They have become legendary in UFO circles. Huge, silent-running โFlying Trianglesโ have been seen by ground observers creeping through the sky low and slow near cities and quietly cruising over highways.
The National Institute for Discovery Science (NIDS), has catalogued the Triangle sightings, sifting through and combining databases to take a hard look at the mystery craft. Based in Las Vegas, Nevada, NIDS is a privately funded science institute with a strong research focusing on aerial phenomena. The results of their study have just been released and lead to some unnerving, still puzzling conclusions.
The study points out: โThe United States is currently experiencing a wave of Flying Triangle sightings that may have intensified in the 1990s, especially towards the latter part of the 1990s. The wave continues. The Flying Triangles are being openly deployed over and near population centers, including in the vicinity of major Interstate Highways.โ
Funny- I am doing the same with you. Of course, trolls like you are not known for debating skills.
Hehe… I guess people is finally getting use
to the idea and understanding of what a Troll is, and that they
do turn AFM upsidedown every now and then…
So still around6 months to go for it becomes operational
:p
That’s known as rubbing it in, Arshad… Shame on you! ๐
Agnis mentality: preoccupation – 3,000 miles due east –
not 200 or 300 miles to its north or its northwest. Therefore, neighbours in
close proximimities to her should not concern themselves.
Speculations: Are the ChiComs paying attention? I doubt
they even bother with it because their wary are people much larger —
and not those from the Kim Jong Il’s league or calaber!!!
My take: Aside from US & Russia, all else — child’s play.
:p
Olympics are a time of truce as per ancient customs.
CCP would be very worried if Bushboys took up permanent residence in beijing outside
of that two week period.
Indeed they will. And, with Agnis zippin’ across
the Beijing skyline? Who wouldn’t ๐ฎ ??? Therefore, I don’t think the Chinese
will even consider letting Mr. Bush go after 2008.
You must understand, with his Chinese upbringing, that
attachment or craving for Kung Po Chickens ๐ will never weaken or subside
because Chinese culinaries can be extremely addictive.
Well, as long as the distance to Beijing doesn’t increase too dramatically between now and A-III induction time, the A-III should still be relevant. ๐
But then again, plate tectonics could increase the distance and by the time A-III is operational, it may be useless against Beijing.
With American athelete in the direct line of fire come 2008???
You will have Mr. Bush to answer to because he’s not one who takes no for an answer,
regardless of how much wider the tetanic plates have drifted.
You cannot outlaw the Communist party in India, actually there are 2 main partys that are communists, if they win elections, they get seats, there is nothing anyone can really do about that, they are very strong in the east, incidetally these states lag behind others in terms of economic development. ๐
>>>cannot outlaw the Communist party<<<
Maybe, what’s needed is giants or charactors such as
J. Edgar Hoover and Senator Joseph McCarthy to put away all those Commies
who are possibly trying to take over Democratic India.
After all, if India’s Commies are as difficult to get rid of from India as
conniving Bill Clinton is from the WH, even with all the tempting and mouth watering
submissions and with mighty Ken Star manning the chopping board, then, India is without
question in the crappers and no amount of Agis will make a difference.
BTW, they wouldn’t be Nepalese Maoists would they???
