The F-16 is called the FALCON
The F-18 the HORNET
And whilst the hornet can give you an insect sting , and the falcon can claw you with its talons,……. the Dragon (in theory, since they are cosmic forces) can ZAP you with thunder-bolts of a trillion-zillion volts !!!!!!!!!
Me think it’s something like this:
Falcon:
Winged Hunters or bird of prey
Hornet:
Also Winged hunters; but one’s that swarms in massive
numbers and will defend their world to the death with a vengeance against
anything/everything that stirs or disturbs their peace…
Can you picture the two?
😀
Let’s not forget that the Taiwanese named the radar of their F-CK-1 fighter after one of the members of this board: Golden Dragon.
It’s call reading between the lines. Bravo, Crob!!!
Flying tiger hidden dragon ?
O_o sounds familiar
I always thought that that title, and other titles like it, was lame in the English language.
J-10 Flying Tiger? 😀
I’d like to see a shark mouth painted on the J-10 intakes.
:p
Anything but dragon!!!
Imagine the Japanese start calling
their F-2 the Honda-2 because Honda was such
a Japanese success, pride, and joy.
China/Chinese must get off of their high “Dragon”
trip and start assigning names to their products which would appeal more
to the international market they are targetting!!!
:p
I think edisonone got something mixed up. Chengdu guys only call FC-1 as “枭龙” (simplified Chinese) or “枭龍”(traditional Chinese) for internal use and for the Chinese press and so the **** “owlet dragon” or whatever is named by some unrelated western military info leakers or magazine editors who make a living by peeping what planes China is making. That ****ty term got no Chinese origin but westerners’ whim and Chengdu haven’t use this ****ty term in their brouchure or conferences aimed at selling the FC-1. And you call J-10 “fierce dragon”? Who tells you that or is just your whim? J-10 haven’t officially debuted yet and now it got a “XXX dragon” name? You saw some lame guys using this name in whatever forums and then you accuse Chengdu guys of using this name? What logic is that?
😉
Re: “枭龙” or “枭龍”:
Not so says Edison.
Souces from China.com suggests that, for
export purposes, the j-10 is being assigned the name “Fierce Dragon”…
a popular term in Chinese theology, i.e…
“If not a Fierce Dragon that it wouldn’t have crossed the river divide.”
Now, I agree that the term dragon is a far Far Eastern term which carries
with it huge repercussions when used, assigned, or applied to an item or to a person. But, this is
the 21st century. This is an age where SZ-Spaceships circles the globe and taikonautes bid
hello to the world from above. This is not an age of Kings and Emperors anymore!!!
I mean imagine or supposing the Chinese public continues to assign the title
“Dragon” to its head of state, i.e., Hu Jintoa and/or Jiang ZiMin, as was the practice of the past when
refering to the Kings and Emperors… I mean wouldn’t it sound funny now days?
Or imagine Mr. Mubarak being called the Pharo
of Egypt instead of being known as the President of Egypt?
Would it too sound silly in this day and age???
China and the Chinese public must get off of a this “high Dragon trip”
and start to blend in with the times; become a part of the present rather than to dwell on its
glorious past like an ostrich with its head in the sand.
This is the 21st century — not 400 BC!!!!
😉
Right before Tieniman Square, We had full tours going for the PLAAF here in the states, touring bases and wings. Hung out with some for a few days as we took them around the states on a KC-10. The PLAAF and USAF were on the way to being best buddies. Got a tie clip given to me by the then head of the PLAAF. Post Tieniman, that all ended. The “need” then, was the Cold War with the Soviet Union. Both the U.S. DOD and PLA / PLAAF were willing to play each other to get what each wanted.
My 2 cents on Tieniman Square:
Tieniman Square was, IMHO, no more but an excuse or an opportunity
(Then Reagan administration?) to get out of an agreement that the administration
and America in general, were likely never very comfortable with anyhow.
Reason for the above: The Korean war and the Vietnam war was still fresh in America’s memory
and the part China was percieved to have played in both these wars was almost unforgivable in the eyes
of or in the psyches of the general American public. If otherwise, the technology transfer which was promised
and which was so close at hand then would have been honored anywhichway the ball bounces.
Unfortunately, times have changed. And, the object of both countries
(and both people) are now based on trade and on economic well being!!! And that
I believe is the catalyst that’ll bring not only east and west together — but all
sharing and caring if not beloved peoples the world over closer together.
🙂
Edisonone, stop making a new thread if you just post 1 pic got from who knows where. Add this pic to the already large thread of J-10 is totally sufficient.
Sorry, I am not one who’ll engage in hopscotch with groups I feel
could be insincere. I am an independent. I don’t believe in partisian politics.
I do however believe I have the rights to such freedom of choice. No???
Re: from who knows where:
Aim at picture; then click left side of your
moused; then click property; it’ll show you the source of the pic.
“I didn’t make the picture up that’s for sure.”
Hope that helps!

Congrads… I guess Ms. Ghandi’s not a chip off of the old block after all…
It’s Rockin’ Roll time, Asia!!!

And waytta go, Ms. Ghandi!
Finally, a Mrs. Thatcher of the Asian continent???
My philosophy: The world needs more superpowers…
It’s mighty unfair and it’s mighty lonely up there for one and
for one guy only to take on the burdens of the world!!!
Asia is on the move and she is not waiting
for an OK from anyone to say that she has the rights to
do so before she embark on such a move!!!
:p
Word is…

From knowledgable sources:
One of this:

is said to equal to no less than 5 of this:

Sad! Because that means that the Eagle is on its way out.
Anyway, if that notion holds true, why then is everyone still diving head
first into items such as the Flanker, the Rafale, the Grippen, the Typhoon, etc.,
as the top choices for their country’s defensive needs???
Why not simply go after the Americans for the Raptor???
😮
I now it’s not a navy forum but this is gold. 😮 😮 😮

Navies of the world :
It’s interesting to know how it is that some NAVIES will never equal to
that of another, or of some others, and will inadvertently get the axe while one’s
similar to this manages to pop up as did, unfettered, and uninterupted.
So, conspiracy???!!! 😀
Nahhhh… Just kiddin’. Please don’t concern yourselves…
(Above is simply a choice-sampling of the mouth-watering

beautiful pic, although the F-15 is not as beautiful as any of the American teen fighters or even the Mig-29 or Su-27.
My position and understanding of the mighty F-15:
Actually, I for one will kill for it, anytime, if an opportunity
was made available that either the F-14 or 15 can be had. Providing
of course I was some Secretary of Defence of some nation.
The two, IMO, are the better of all US A/C designs of the 70s and 80s.
Both are state of the arts A/Cs that MiG and Sukhoi had tried desperately to copy,
mimmic, and which they tried to compete with in the marketplace then.
My recollection: Eventually, MiG and Sukhoi suceeded at
their endeavors at capturing the international marketplace with their Su-27s
and MiG-29s displays and exhibitsat Farnbrough and Paris.
Therefore, no contest. The two are indeed awesome machines…
How naive.
Edisonone, are you related to Haley?
Don’t how to do ignor just yet.
But soon enough, I gaurantee you that I will pick up on that
usefull feature. I promise 😀 !
Meanwhile, you wouldn’t happen to fall in this category, would you???

Just curious and counting on it that you are a member of this group.
Talkin’ about bias against western technology:
There does seem to be a lack of interest in things western.
But, please don’t blaim it on the Russians or on the Chinese. Blaim it on yourselves
because you guys are not contributing zilch to the subject(s).
So! Don’t cry wolf the next time around!!!
