Cheers mate i will give it a go. Not going with MyTravel which is a dirty word for us know. Going to Hong Kong for 5 nights and then Phuket for 7 nights. Flying wtih a few : BA, Cathy , Dragon Air , Thai , China and KLM. Hope to get a few good shots in there ?
Off the top of my head the 757 has one hell of a safety record. If im right i dont think a 757 has ever crashed due to a tech problem ? I think there has always been an outside factor. However that mabye wrong ?
Don’t know how true this is but i heard that after the AA A300 crash the insurance company said any more and we will pull the plug. If that was the case then im sure that would have cripled them. Sure no other insurance company would have taken them on either ? After Sept 11th and then that it most have cost their insures billions and i dread to think what the excess on those kind of figures are ?
It’s years since i have been but i remember FRA having a cracking aviation shop.
Jaw dropping shots !!

My Travel Airways UK
Peter Mc Hugh/Frank Pullman
Dear Colleague
In line with our strategic objective of reducing the proportion of our costs that are fixed, we are now proposing a reduction in the UK aircraft fleet. We are potentially moving towards a fleet of Airbus aircraft. This smaller fleet will enable us to achieve significant cost savings and reduce our level of risk.
Reducing the size of the fleet unfortunately means that we may need fewer people. Any reallocation of aircraft resulting from such a reduction may mean the closure of the Stansted and Leeds Bradford bases, and operating Bristol and Cardiff on a summer only basis. Other bases may be affected to a lesser extent. Today we have informed those MyTravel Airways UK employees who may be affected by these changes that we are beginning a consultation process with their representatives about possible redundancies. We will be working with all of our potentially affected staff through this period to mitigate the impact of our proposals.
MyTravel Airways UK will continue to be a core part of our business. As a result of these changes, its aircraft fleet will be a better fit for the size and shape of the business moving forward.
Yours sincerely,
Peter McHugh
CEO MyTravel Group
Dear Colleague,
As you will have seen from Peter McHugh’s letter, as part of the turnaround of the Group we are proposing to reduce the size of the UK aircraft fleet.
The proposed fleet reduction would take place progressively from the start of the coming winter season and would result, by the end of summer 2005, in the UK fleet consisting entirely of Airbus A320/A321 and A330 aircraft.
The need for the reduction in fleet size is brought about by a reduction in the demand for seats by tour operators. This reduction goes hand-in-hand with their reductions in committed hotel beds and provides a size of business more in line with market demand. This in turn avoids the need for the tour operators to reduce prices to uneconomic levels simply to fill the available capacity.
The proposed reduction in the fleet obviously has an impact on our staff and may very sadly lead to redundancies. We will enter into a 90-day consultation with representatives of our Pilot, Cabin Crew and Ground workforces to discuss that impact. The purpose of consultation is to
seek, together with the staff representatives, the best way of managing this difficult process and finding ways to avoid any redundancy situation. As the consultation process takes place, we will keep people informed of progress.
I fully understand that this is going to be a difficult and trying time for all of us, but I am sure that we all understand the business pressures upon us and the need to work towards the restructure and long-term success of MyTravel.
Yours sincerely,
Frank Pullman

STAFF FAQ
Below are answers to your most frequently asked questions (FAQs), please feel free to contact your line manager if you have any further questions.
Q&A
Q: What is the reason behind the proposed redundancies?
A: MyTravel Airways UK is planning a reduction of its fleet. This could result in redundancies. The reduction is part of MyTravel Group’s turn
around strategy.
Q: Why are you reducing the number of aircraft?
A: After a thorough review we have concluded that a smaller fleet would mean less risk, much lower costs and less capacity, which is a better fit for the size and shape of the business today.
Q: I don’t understand why we need to reduce the size of the fleet – if MyTravel Airways UK is profitable then surely the more aircraft we have the better off we are?
A: MyTravel as a whole has made major losses. It is no longer economic to have a large fleet of aircraft for the size and shape of our business today, a smaller aircraft fleet is essential.
Q: Will there be any cost savings from running an Airbus only fleet?
A: Clearly having a single type in the fleet does offer opportunities for greater efficiency.
Q: Is it true that MyTravel Airways is pulling out of a number of airport bases?
A: It is proposed that the following MyTravel Airways bases will close: * Stansted * Leeds Bradford
Q: Are there any other plans for redundancies or to reduce flying at other bases?
A: Under the proposed changes, Bristol and Cardiff would become summer only bases, which may have some impact on personnel at these bases.
Q: Is MyTravel Airways being wound down?
A: Not at all, MyTravel Airways will continue to operate as MyTravel Group’s in-house airline, but with a reduced fleet.
Q: What is the total number of people that the proposed redundancy programme could affect?
A: Around 540 employees could be affected by the proposed redundancies. A mixture of Flight Deck, cabin crew, management and ground staff/ MyTravel Airways head office
Q: What is the process for redundancy?
A: We are commencing a process of consultation with all staff who are potentially affected to consider the implications of these changes. We will actively work with representatives from trade unions and other elected representatives to find ways to reduce any potential redundancies.
Q: Have the relevant unions been consulted about the proposed redundancies?
A: Initial meetings have been had with BALPA, Cabin Crew 89 and Amicus and formal consultation commenced on 26 July for those employees represented by those unions.
Q: Who is heading the union talks?
A: A senior airline management team headed by Frank Pullman will consult with the unions.
Q: What about staff not represented by Trade Unions?
A: Due to the requirement to elect representatives, consultation with these groups will formally commence during week commencing 16 August and will also last for a minimum of 90 days. Details of the election process will be communicated to affected employees.
Q: Will any staff be redeployed?
A: We will consider all options to find alternatives to potential redundancies such as retraining/ redeployment/ voluntary redundancy (subject to business need)/ early retirement/ part time. This will become clearer as we proceed through consultation and we will communicate all options to those who may be affected.
Q: What kind of redundancy pay would staff receive?
A: Any redundancy pay would be subject to consultation with elected representatives and in line with statutory requirements.
Q: When would staff actually leave the business?
A: Due to the 90 day consultation period, the earliest that any notice period may be served would be 1 November 2004. This is subject to consultation and notice requirements.
Q: Will you be providing outplacement support?
A: Yes. We will consider what format this would best take as part of consultation.
Q: By reducing the MyTravel Airways fleet and making these job cuts do you think it will ensure the Group makes a profit in 2004.
A: The proposed redundancies are part of the Group’s overall turn round strategy. The fleet reduction will help to reduce our fixed costs and yield significant savings for the Group. The Group has previously stated that it expects to return to profitability by 2005.
