humph……I am very very good looking!!!
Atleast thats what my mom says…..she wouldn’t lie…..would she???
Well, I served 4yrs in the Norwegian army, including 27 months deployed in peacekeeping missions in Kosovo and Bosnia….and I can honestly say, that in either of the 3 units I served in…I NEVER met anyone who did it for King and Country….or freedom and safety for the people in the Balkans. The reasons were many…we had one that served half a contract so he could get enough money to buy a very expensive photo camera…but he got fired when this was brought to the officers attention.
Mostly it is as has been mentioned…..excitement and getting to do something that you will NEVER get to do in civilian life……and don’t forget about the money.
Nothing like serving a couple of contracts, and then go home to start your studies without having to take up a massive bankloan.
When I was 21yrs old, I had command of a 23 ton vehicle bristling with guns, a crew of 3 with me and up to 10 guys in the back…and we would go on patrols, stop cars to check papers etc etc…often our orders were to provide safety for the locals in a certain area for a 12hrs. Big stuff for a 21yr old, but exciting. It also gave a sense of accomplishment…after all, we were helping people!! Did King, Country, Honour, our People and our Freedom ever get mentioned…not that I am aware of.
But you can’t assume the missile will hit the plane somewhere far away from the pilot, leaving him unharmed so he can eject… What if the missile explodes right into the cockpit!
To bad!!!
If you are a military pilot and have a missile tracking you, and then eject early because a) it might hit or b) it might kill you if it does……don’t you think you should have given your chosen proffesion a little bit more thought??
You are in a warzone, trying to bring harm to other people…in situations like these people get killed. I am not saying that you should ride the plane into the ground, but to eject before a hit because you might be hit in the cockpit smells a little of cowardice. Surely not going to get the mission completed, might put others in danger…and you can kiss any medals or promotions goodbye.
So….my personal opinion…try to shake that missile or whatever it is, if that doesn’t work…try to fly the plane as long/far as you can towards home…and if necessary eject. If you get killed in the initital blast, to bad…you just paid the ultimate price for the job you chose to do. Maybe your death enables someone else to complete the mission??
War is hell, people get killed..
Here is a couple of me from today.
Normally don’t take any pics of myself…..
Here I am reflecting about the meaning of it all….
Personally?
The Textron Lycoming O-540-F1B5
That baby just keeps going and going…..kept me dry so far!!
Its the late 1930s, and an old woman is on her first flight in an airplane.
The flight is at night, and mostly in the clouds. After landing the old woman asks the cabin personell to tell the pilot he was doing a fantastic job.
A little curious as to how an old woman on her first ever flight can now that it was a good flight, they ask her what she means.
“I kept a good eye on his flying, and he stayed between the red and the green light ALL the way!!!”
I am aware of the possibilty of adjusting the framerates. My point was that on my system, I can put the graphics in IL2 and Pacific Fighters all the way up including tweaking the config files to get even better graphics…especially water. But at the same time FS9 can only be run with mediocre graphics.
I also have most of the addons I need for FS9…but I still think it should be included.
That good addons are available should not mean that Microsoft can put out a mediocre product. The default panels and models were pretty much outdated upon release.
I would have to agree with the Norwegian Army boots….best pair of boots that I have ever tried for flying.
One thing is to wear the appropriate footwear for the flight….but as my instructor told me : Wear what will be appropriate for the walk away from the crash site…Made sense to me.
And no, I don’t plan to crash…not many do.
Sounds like a good idea!!
Funny that they are using Windows 2000 as the operating system, would suck to get the blue screen of death at a bad moment.
Who needs trucks???
As Bruce Campbell said in Army of Darkness….”This is my BOOMSTICK!!”
Small, fast (35knots), stops in one and a half boatlengths, front opens up and a Hellfire missile team dismounts. Way better, faster and not to mention cooler than a truck!!
Stridsbåt 90N (combat boat—direct translation)
The so-called Crash Stop…
Doors open and people getting out….
And…
Also a couple of the Norwegian Navy “spy” ship Marjata….a somewhat strange looking vessel….

Aeronca C3!!!!

Well, actually I am hoping that I will get the job.
Onwards and upwards…as they say.
The Antillean way gets kinda tiring after a year or so….
The job here sounds a whole lot better than it is, but as my girlfriend says…”you are living every 11yr old boys dream….helicopters, beaches and computer games”…so I am definitely going to miss it.
A couple of months ago I happened to be down at Sunset Beach as an American Airlines 757 came in on a short left base for rwy 09. He overshot the turn to final, banked it over steeply to the left to get aligned…overshot a little again…came screaming over the beach in a right turn….landed on the right main first and then proceeded to use the whole length of the runway to stop…so an Air Caraibes Dornier had to circle on final to give him time to backtrack and exit.
The tower controller hesitated a bit, and said something like “oooookey…American *** exit at Charlie…be cool man”
I have to support the PMDG 737. GREAT machine….especially with FS2CREW as well.
Erich Hartmann…no contest in my eyes…
And if ground kills would count..then Hans Ulrich Rudel.
