The Veteran interviewed was John Bell.
Very Good analysis there Bob !!!
Does this include the deaths in WW2?
No. WW2 was another 38-55 million civilian dead and 22-25 million military dead.
A letter in today’s DT says that the car he was travelling in is now preserved in Vienna. The number plate is A111118. The date the war ended. How strange is that?
I certainly do give him credit for what he has done, that’s why he was a hero of mine. it’s his hatred of the British I can’t get my head around.
Any know if RN carriers had these “stools” when they had Harriers? Or indeed RAF?
For our Lancaster, we require 5000′ minimum.
CWHM, can you confirm that will mean you will NOT be landing at Duxford?
Very true, Fred. What annoyed me was that he would not engage in conversation. some of the FB posts were from people involved in USAAF related museums here in UK and they were generally upset. Perhaps he still has a grudge that the British burnt the White House down in 1812.
PA474 certainly has landed at Duxford since. BBMF’s 50th I recall in 2007 (I think). Jacko Jackson was at the controls of Just Jane when I went for a taxi ride about 10 years ago.
I don’t understand this DT ran similar story today saying that undertakers were expecting to be only people there. but he does have relations see here,

I remember a thread on here a while back, started by one of our transatlantic pals, that suggested Mr Yeager was a bit of a miserable sod and quite anti British. I was quite surprised by it, but, without meeting the bloke, I would’nt like to comment on that, does anyone actually know the truth about this.
I read his biography a few years ago and was quite taken with it, it’s interesting to think that I spent many happy times at the Cakes and Ale campsite on the old airfield in Leiston where he was based, but I didn’t know it at the time, strange to think that he could have been lying in the grass where we put up our tent.
As far as I’m concerned, he was one of the great heroes of ‘to the edge’ flying, it must have been a bit wierd to play the role of barman in ‘The Right Stuff’ and watch an actor play yourself.
Glad to see the old boy is still going, despite hanging out with those obnoxious Hilton people.
It’s taken some years, but I have the evidence. This appeared on the General’s FB page a few days ago. I’d been following him on FB for awhile. Good thing about FB you can get “close” to your heroes, but unfortunately in this case someone I once admired went from hero to zero in about 24hours. Many Brits commented on this, pointing out firstly the stupidity of it and secondly many in UK respected what USAAF did in WW2. I even posted a picture of the memorial at Leiston to his former FG. Sadly all the comments, polite that they were, that did not accord with his version of history were removed (including mine) and only the anti British comments now remain. still I guess Yeager, or should I say Jeager, is a German name and he just flew for the wrong side. I even found I was barred from commenting further on his FB page. Needless to say I no longer follow him
Anyone want a signed copy of his autobiography? Going cheap. Second thoughts, I’ll just put it on the fire.

Just one point, I think photos 0018 to 0022, 0025, 0027, 0028 to 0030 are Lancasters (both PA474 and NX611), rather than Lincolns. And is that a Road Tax disc in the window of 0019!
0031 to OO36 ditto, and included RCAF Lancaster FM104.
