A the moment they only have one in-service, with a second aircraft due in-service in the 4th quarter of this year. The third aircraft is due in-service from Summer 2007.

Secondly, what may appear to be more worrying, a woman of Pakistani origin was found to have two containers of liquid in West Virginia that were picked up by a sniffer dog and then later tested positive after a swab for explosive materials. This incident does seem more severe although discretion may also be required. On one hand, sniffer dogs are very well trained with an incredible acute sense to smell, but on the other hand the swab machines test positive for materials other than explosives. So will have to wait to see the outcome. BBC link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/5261456.stm
The woman turned out to be only carrying a bottle of water and a tube of handcream. She has been cleared to travel by the FBI as early as this morning. Story here BBC Link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/5261456.stm
A thoroughly enjoyable read. Fantastic report, photos and videos.
Very Nice photos.
Brilliant photos!
As for a source apparently this has been posted on the Monarch Intranet – so we’ll have to wait still for a formal press release. Where’s news of the MD11s coming from?
As lbaspotter said, they are ex-varig aircraft.
Very nice photos. Love the first one especially. Looks like you had nice weather down there in Leeds.
COME ON BA SORT IT OUT.
4/7 LHR flights canx today, & we only yesterday started receiving LGW services again.
The “tighter security” reason is starting to look like a lame excuse.
Not the first time down the years BA has singled out ABZ for major disruption, we always seem first in line for delays & canx.
Shows BA’s “commitment” to ABZ…NOT! 😡
ABZ had all the LGW flights today, and they were all ontime. As for LHR, you said that 4 out of the 7 flights were cancelled.
It is slowly but surely getting back to normal, as tomorrow, only BA1305 to LHR is cancelled and the 6 other flights are so far estimated to be operating to schedule. By Friday 18th August, all 7 departures to LHR are scheduled to be running.
How come BMI are still managing to operate all there flights to ABZ, is that because they run a much smaller operation from LHR than BA?
very Interesting read. Glad you enjoyed your holiday.
If you don’t mind me asking, how come when you go away, you fly a different airline on the outbound, as to what you do on the inbound?
Did easyJet not have fairly advanced plans a few years ago to use a 747 on peak routes in the summer? I assume that must have fallen through though.
I remember reading that about EasyJet in Airliner World a few years ago.
So I dug out my Airliner Worlds, and in the April 2004 magazine, it shows a picture of what a Boeing 747-200 would look like in EasyJet colours (Designed by Bmussed55). It stated that it would have been used to increase capacity on some routes during the summer, aswell as possibly operating a transfer service for passengers using EasyCruise.
As I haven’t seen it on here already, I thought I would put this on here. A BA flight to New York last night returned to London Heathrow as a mobile phone rang onboard.
Story from a passenger onboard here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/talking_point/4791595.stm
Easyjet just use the South terminal at Gatwick.
Brilliant report and photos Tom. Glad you enjoyed Iberia, I’m jealous that you got a leather seat aircraft and I didn’t. :diablo:
My dad just flew home NCL-ABZ. As no hand luggage is allowed into the cabin, all items have to be checked in, except the bare essentials e.g. Wallet, Money, Tickets. He said that there was a man passing through security infront of him, who had a mobile telephone. Because he didn’t have any hold luggage, he was allowed to take the phone onboard. I didn’t think that he’d have been able to. I thought they would have conviscated it, then returned it to him, upon arriving at his destination.
Don’t know how long they stay, but on another thread I once read that the Virgin Atlantic crews that fly to Sydney, its a 9 day trip.
