Let’s not forget the poor chaps who had to fly them!

Excellent photo. Any chance of identifying who who ?
Did the H model have the same folding tailplane as the D. Its an obvious weak point.
The above link refers to 9 Hunter incidents, three were a total loss and only two were fatal, none were during a public air display. No comment just the facts.
Go to the first link “bidspotter” and select the image for lot 1050, then keep selecting the next image, guess you have to bid on what you see.
I dont understand this auction, is it internet bids only ? Do they simply take the internet highest bid, even if its tens of pounds above the second highest ? Notice some model kits on the list also, but again no details about how to get them other than collection.
Just hope they go to a good home and the good stuff does not get thrown out with the rubbish.
Possibly Piston, but Item 3/4 is definitely off a Rolls Royce Dart engine of some sort.
Maybe from a Handley Page Herald. :dev2:
Forgive me Brian as Im not very good for reading NOTAMS. Could this be for a display over the airfield or a restriction over the airfield.
Luke
I am sure Brian and the rest of the DX paparatzi will be along with more information. but a NOTAM like that normally means the airfield is closed to all movements, so I dont expect flying display, as that would be listed as such. More likely somebody on, or close to the airfield needs some peace and quiet, filming with no aircraft noise ?
No sure it deals directly with our request. but do you have teh book published by Midland Counties here in UK in 1994 called “Foreign Invaders” ISBN 1-85780-013-3 Book covers all foreign and US clandestine service of the Douglas A-26 / B-26 Invader. Excellent reading and there are two sections on Cuba and Bay of Pigs operations.
PM me if you need a scan of the relevant pages.

Still find it strange that an aircraft with such a record with the USAF both in Europe and in combat in Vietnam be left out of the AAM. With the removal sometime ago of the F-86 there is a big gap in the time line from the mid forties to the early seventies when the F-4 Phantom was introduced. Fully understand that you can not preserve everything but to leave out the F-100 does seem odd. So apart from the straight swap F-15 for F-100, the B-25 repaint and the removal of the Avenger, to replaced in by the P-51 and P-47 both hangaring from the roof ? What else is going to be new in the AAM ?
Maybe a Grumman Tigercat fitted with a pair of Turbo prop engines would fit the bill ? The Tigercat was a pretty nippy performer so assume the airframe was stressed to deal with high speed, some were converted as fire bombers so their loading carrying is not in doubt, and the night fighter version could carry radar and a second crewman, so although small must have had enough internal room. Fitted with either multiple guns or heavy canon in the nose and underwing stores, its only disadvantage might have been lack of fuel / range. Guess the DH Hornet, fitted with turbo props, would have had great performance but too small to carry heavy ground attack loads.
Any news as to when the Lancaster will be laid up for its major service. IIRC this was (still is ?) planned for ARCo at Duxford during 2016/2017. There were plans for a news, purpose built hangar but this does not appear to have been started yet.
Remember when using a credit card overseas you usually incur a transaction fee. This might actually be more than the cost of fare, so purchasing an Oyster would be cheaper.
Not sure if Shuttleworth Collection has been mentioned, open daily from 9.30am to 5.00pm The Airfield is only 3 mile from Biggleswade Railway station, on the main East Coast Line out of London Kings Cross, unless than 1 hour journey. By car from Shuttelworth to Duxford its about 30miles, allow 40 minutes to drive.
Do we know if the BBMF aircraft will land at Humberside before this flypast. Assuming launch time from Humberside will be 16.00 local ?
Another USA based Argosy is XR143 at Sioux City. http://www.midamericaairmuseum.org/about.html Maybe they can help ?
Sadly G-AOZZ which was scrapped by the Yankee Air Museum in 2013. Its a long shot but I don’t suppose anything of use was saved ?
Beware the link shows the sad scrapping of the prototype AW650 Argosy. http://www.argosyair.co.uk/remain.html
Thanks, has the B-52 moved inside again ?
Nice B-25, any details / history of the marking chosen ?
Question for the DX regulars. Are the B-29 and B-52 still parked outside and are they easily photographed ?
