That never seems to worry them down at Hendon…
“closed due to a problem with the lighting in the building”
Maybe its too bright in there and they are taking the bulbs out ?
Aeroplane Monthly’s November edition details the SAAB Lansen, it states that with the Viggen not expected in service until 1971 a Lansen improvement program was started and other alternatives were looked at. The options being licence production of the Buccaneer or F-4 Phantom “In the event the Buccaneer was deemed unsuitable and the Phantom too expensive” So this story at least proves some sort of consideration of the F-4
Seen photos and paintings showing bombers dispersed around the perimeter of bases sometimes within or under trees. I guess that as more aircraft became based additional farm land was requistioned to serve as parking areas with PSP or similar being laid to access the airfield. Security must have been a nightmare, who would have been responsible for this RAF, Army, Home Guard, as I doubt that fencing would have been errected as the land would still have been farmed.
VX927, I agree with you. The time is now for funding XH558’s second retirement. Money should, indeed should have been, invested in XH558’s future, where that lays I do not know, my feelings are that Bruntingthrope should be its final resting place and that its long term preservation is best secured as a ground runner under the same conditions as the Victor. Indeed I have never supported the return to flight and consider that the lottery millions would have been better spent ten years ago on hangarage and secure maintance schedules for all of Bruntingthorpe’s residents. The “educational benefit” of flying the Vulcan has never been achieved and much time has been wasted by not providing the neccessary admin and residential accomadation required to host school parties at Bruntingthorpe.
Hi TJ, your wish is my command…

West Malling. Oh happy days, probably my first full warbird show, remember we travelled by coach great fun, got totally soaked. Apoloigies for the quality a combination of badly stored slides and average equipment.
Credit due to the Chelmsford ATC. Could they not be given a cockpit section as a reward, something like a Jaguar should be easy enought to store and maintain ?
The Wyton image is most diffinately not Mar 5th 1945 as Goggle state. At least 7 Canberra’s are visiable as well as some unidentifiable ‘blobs’ stored on the south side. My guess is the image is around 1955. Early 1950’s the main runway was lengthend and the Ramsey Road cut (eastern end) and in 1952 reconnaissance Mosquitos and Lancasters arrived. Canberras replaced them in November 1953, and in November 1955 Valiants arrived from Gaydon.

Not visited recently but the Admiral Wells, Holme used to have a memorial wall and photos of the USAAF units based at nearby Glatton (B-17’s 457th BG ??)

Any more details about this weekends event ?
Who is going ? Any updated list of expected arrivals ?
Excuse me for being dim, but who does this aircraft belong and where does it live ?
Seem to remember reading about and A and B camo schemes that even serials were A and odd serials were B (or it could have been the other way around) Anyway during the build up to war why did the Air Ministry consider it necessary to have two different schemes ??
Maybe I have missed something, but is this a new Spitfire replica or has the original replica just been repainted ?
Still one on the gate at RAF Croughton.
