See this is perfect example how “I chain my self to coal train” bunch use information carpet bombing of statements and facts to draw up misleading and wrong conclusion.

What does “largest extinction period” have to do with global worming in particular?? Are you saying that its only the global worming and not , Deforestation, Hunting, poaching, Polution , loss of habitat causing it? Yes the extinction is in large part a MAN issue, but dont entangle it with global worming.

You mentioned Royal Society.. the same Royal Society that Ridiculed Darwin for almost 50 years??

The same Royal Society that ridiculed Tesla and called him a mad man and “dangerous” when he said that “One day Man will sit at home in one part of the country and hold device that would let him hear Opera that was sang in another part of the country”???

Same Royal Society that for better part of century ridiculed theory of Continental drift and Movement of Tectonic plates and suggestions that there used to be one continet called pangea. ???

Same royal society that belived for better part of 100 years that supersonic travel by man is imposible, that laughed off suggestions of powered flight, and milion other things

NEWSFLASH: Scientist get it wrong all the time. Just because something is widely accepted now does not mean it will be in future.. and it usually takes one or few people who challange status quo , get ridiculed in process but in the end get proven right. It was same in 60s and 70s with “global cooling” when everybody thought we are getting into an Ice age (though strangely this is now poping up again) , in 80s and 90s when our “disapearing ozone layer” was going to be the end of us all, and now its global warming… in weeks time who knows.. it might be Cheese threatening the world 😀

Over a very long time frame the US intends to develop the ability to intercept MIRV’s. Perfectly reasonable given that those powers currently developing missile forces could deploy them and countermeasures.

I dont have a problem with this.. how ever even you can see how such capability will shift balance of MAD, hence you can expect an answer from Russian or China.

Now what i do have problem with is when west starts jumping up and down and using such words as “new cold war” and “back to soviet days”, when Russia and China do answer the legitimate threat they see.. like they way everybody got worked up about Iskanders at Kalingrad.. which was a hardly anything worth getting worked up about.

Since when was a Scud a solid fuelled missile with a range in excess of 2000km?

Ok smarty pants, short-medium ranged balisitc missile (in my ayes still fall into category of Scuds.. but have it your way) …still rather primitive compared to what other powers are fielding. And still decades away from actualy threatening continental USA.

Russia and China can do what the hell they like, the missile shield is not pointed at them, as long as they stick to their treaty obligations or withdraw from them through the proper channels.

Content of that article begs to differ and capability it describes (providing that US seeks/intends to achieve such capability)

Technically, i have to disagree. Russia used 9K79 SRBM in both Czechnya (also Scuds, at Itum Vale) and Georgia. Other than that, it depends on whether you’d see Lampedusa as part of Europe or Africa (Scuds in 1986).

Geography is not your stronger side…

PS: Well this completely blows US position that Missile shield is not aimed at Russia (China)… since every other country they claim shield is aimed at, is more less at SCUD level of missile technology … and decades away from any type of sophicticated ICBMs… let alone MRV capability.

If one day (distant day) US does develop shield capable of “significantly increasing defense capability ” against lager number of ICBMs with MRVs… Logical step for Russia (China) is to mount Warheads on satellite like platforms in geosynchronous orbit above continental North America and Europe, and the MAD continues.

Apart from cooling the sun comment, very little is tosh in his comment and can be argued for.

For half a decade now Global Warming was the hippest most posh issue you could take on.. and overglorified weather men (climate scientists) have been pushing it for the sake of their own vanity and self importance.

People Like Al Gore , a dumbarse who while did invented internet, has no scientific background all together, but all of a sudden an expert on climate change and a Messiah for “i chain my self to coal trains” loony brigade. Giving him a piece prize for a quazi scientific propaganda film is equivalent to giving Paris Hilton Nobel Prize for achivement in Molecular Biology.. her film did after all educate 1000s of 12y old where babies come from… well almost … she was using a wrong “orifice” in the movie… but close.

For the past half a decade anybody who took up opposing argument no mater how logical and evidence supported, was quickly shut down by loony brigade, called a nazi a oil company lackey and not caring about enviroment.
But finally people are starting to wake up and genuine scientists are getting their voices out there and people are starting to belive that perhaps there are other issues affecting climate , and not just man.

Anyway here is an interesting article.. short but enlighting read.

Actually some of those 94-96 Mercs have very good diesel engines, you can run them on cooking oil and they still go. 98-2002 mercs are from period when they dropped ball a bit and their reliability went down the toilet.. as did they reputation.. something that was fixed post 2002-03.

If i was you i would get 95-96 model.. drive it 4-5 years and get 2004 in 2012+ 😀

Lord Clarkson… i like sound of that.

“I went on the internet and i found this….” :D:D

But joke a side, gen 2 or gen 3 TDI engine cars are about 10x better for your wallet and enviroment than petrol-hybrid. If you are in Europe something like Peugot 406 TDi is deacent size , looks nice and will do 500 miles on a single tank if driven normal.

With situation still ongoing and lives in danger as we speak, gray arena thought (and i agreed) that discussion was inaproptiate for the time being.

Sufficient is to say, i hope people trapped are rescued safely and that their rescuers pull trough safely.

Hybrid cars leave bigger carbon footprint before they even leave factory , than a Hummer will in 3 years of operation. Material for battery is dug in canada then shipped to germany for reprocessing then to another place where battery is made.. then its shipped to Japan and put inside Prius , which is then shipped back to UK so some snob pop idol can feel like he is saving the world and look at your 4w drive, down his nose … while on the way to his private Jet..:mad::mad:

Get a quality turbo diesel made somewhere near your country. On top Gear they drove V6 turbo diesel Jag from Switzerland to North of England on a single tank of fuel.. Something like VW is even better.
