ah, this story is 4 years old?

Let’s hear it for a bad economy.
If this were the 90s , pre-9-11, a silly stock market and a 3% unemployment rate, Obama probably would have cut defense spending to the bone.LM, NG and Boeing would have been lucky to get contracts making wind turbines under license from Germany.:D
Now he has to spend money on defense to keep his union backers happy by keeping men working.
I am.
Aside from the usual “challenges” the economy, mideast, etc, he has a heck of a learning curve based on his short time in the Senate and lack of foreign policy and military experience. I’ve known veteran Congressman and staffers (from both parties) who knew a great deal about the military, including procurement, and ops.
I don’t mean this as a partisan slam, but just based on his time in the senate, I don’t think he’s there yet.
I expect Obama to get a longer “Honeymoon” than most…which historically has been about 100 days (or so goes the legend). As far as conservatives attacking him, NYrangerfan1994, it’s their right to do so, especially in areas unrelated to defense.
The same way liberals and the media attacked the previous administration.
It comes with the job along with the big house, big jet and helicopters.
Ask the ghost of Harry Truman. 🙂
my problem isn’t that they are attacking him, my problem is they’re doing it 2 days into his presidency… i mean i waited until at least 2003 before i decided that bush was the worst president in US history… i gave him a fair shake…
so you mean obama’s not going to destroy the american armed forces? i’m sure conservatives will still find excuses to attack him… 😉
That £1 billion pounds of ‘aid’ the UK gives them every year is coming in very handy. Just a shame it’s not spent on kit for UK Forces.

you don’t know how embarrassing it is being singled out, especially if you’re alone… i was in the uk doing my masters studies, and they singled me out because i’m indian, and since all brown people are the same, i must be terroristy… the idiot security guy wanted to see my student id because i guess he didn’t believe i was a student, so i showed it to him, he reads off the 1983 on my id and tells me that this id is old, and i tell him that’s because the 1983 reflects my year of birth… all the while everyone else is staring at me wondering what’s going on… and of course, these are the very people i’ll be flying with so i have to spend the next 8 hours looking as normal as i possibly can, trying to sound as american as i can get… then while about to board the plane, i’ve never had a problem with my passport before, but the boarding agent pulls me over, you don’t look like the person in the passport picture… i wanted to tell her, i’m sure she didn’t always look as ugly as she does now, but i told her the pic was taken a while back… but still, she tells me, well people don’t change that much in a few years… remembering that no one else that looked at my passport pic thought anything of it… needless to say, i won’t ever fly BA again…
i want to know, what palin’s husband was doing in a secessionist organization, how patriotic…

this coming from the supporter of a party which has stolen the presidential election twice in the past 8 years… the irony!
also, the obama campaign, just as the mccain campaign has thousands of supporters… mistakes have been made on both sides, i doubt these guys, who were most probably college students, were actually trying to pull one over on the election commission… i think they were just kids who just weren’t completely sure and made a mistake…
the same can’t be said about the mccain supporter who claimed that she had been attacked by an obama supporter, who happened to be black, to incite racial fears and violence… turns out she was lying… mccain must feel stupid calling her up and telling her she gets well and he sympathizes with her… sucks to be associated with a insane racist…

more important question is, if mccain is elected and he kicks the bucket half way through, what will happen to the country under president sarah palin… or are we all too afraid to think that one through…
as for military service, bill clinton did alright, he didn’t serve… serving in the military does not make you a better candidate for president… you need to have a lot more experience in economics (particularly important today), governance and all that other stuff for that… mccain might have more of it than obama in some categories, but mccain when it comes to the economy, mccain himself admitted he needs to work on that… and a strong economy will dictate what happens with military spending… unless of course you want to turn into the USSR and invest in the military when everything else is falling apart…
either way, i don’t know how anyone can honestly say that sarah palin would make a good president in these times…

this might be a bit of a stretch… but i think georgia was used… the US egged georgia on to make this brazen move… the US never, i don’t think, realistically expected that they would be able to have a foothold that close to russia, especially not in the caucusus region… the trade off, georgia for closer eastern european relations with the US and the world remembering the threat of russian imperialism, would be definitely worth it for the neocons i think… plus, they might just get that second cold war that they’ve wanted so badly… fills the gaps for places that the war on terror couldn’t take them with a nice defined enemy…
