The picture that I posted in #2875 was taken earlier this month through the barbed wire from the A15 (approx 100m away). Normally access close to XM607 is only possible when you’re on an official base tour or perhaps something like the behind the scenes tour run by North Kesteven District Council http://www.n-kesteven.gov.uk/tic/section.asp?docid=7737&ovt=1
Access isn’t possible from on base during Airshows because XM607 is positioned in the ‘Live side’ of the airfield and even on press tours of the flying aircraft you aren’t normally allowed down to the aircraft.
As for the axle stands they take the weight off the tyres; and the airframe has to be lifted by either crane or jacks to remove it from them. The alternative is to tyre fill all the tyres like NAM have done on XM594.
According to the Little Oxford Dictionary, a plinth is – “slab or course between ground or floor and pedestal, pillar, wall etc; base of moveable object.” Most gravestones are mounted on a plinth!
