A new album of photographs has been added to the museum website entitled ‘Changing Face Of The Site’ – this shows the tree removal work that is now well underway in the area of the site near the Hastings, Super Sabre and Mystere.

This work started today in near ideal weather conditions and as suspected most of the trees are diseased and were becoming a danger to the exhibits and the road users along Drove Lane. A fresh planting of trees will be made in the area, these will be both more appropriate to the location and they will be managed correctly to prevent similar ‘micro-climate’ problems in the future.

Once this initial part of the project has been completed more TLC will be lavished on the exhibits – as previously noted work has already started on the under surfaces of the Hastings.

One of the contractors who is undertaking the work remarked that he thought he’d seen the Hastings smile in the warm autumn sunshine that shone onto the aircraft after the first trees had been removed!

Yes there is already a memorial in the centre of the town, which I was taking fresh photographs of the week before last.

I believe that there will be a new memorial as mentioned in the link. It is my understanding that there will be lots of different activities and ceremonies connected with the 70th Anniversary celebrations next year. 😉

There is also an Airborne Force memorial at the Cottage Museum in the town!

Is anyone attending any of the Cuban Missile Crisis events mentioned in post #20?

I believe that Eyebrook and Rutland Water are different – according to their website Rutland Water Reservoir was created in the 1970s.

This article about the appeal in yesterday’s Lincs Echo mentions 103 Squadron – I thought some might enjoy the link! 🙂

… well what can I say; here’s me thinking that you were the expert and were head of the tyre changing pit crew at Airbase!! 😀

Have a good day tomorrow – I’ll have to look out my ‘tyre-filling paper’ that was a supplementary item to a Stopping the Rot conference many years ago! 😉

I see that my previous Accreditation topic is getting a re-run tomorrow as well!!

Hi Roger – we’ve had a couple of emails about tomorrow but unfortunately I’m not able to attend; likewise one of my colleagues is also unable to attend! 🙁

    Have a good day!

Also have you seen the tyre / graphite thread about these part? I thought you may be able to offer some input!
