The 22nd edition had a list and the new one should be out very soon – no doubt you’ll be able to get copies from here! 😉

The Mil was first noted in July 2009.

I did wonder how NAM could afford the booking fee. it would cost a fortune to get XH558 to any event surely?

I believe it was in the area – rest assured that if NAM had booked it they would have let everyone know beforehand!

As it was, there was an influx of ‘temporary’ visitors once the social media scene kicked in after it took off from Doncaster – I also understand that the pilot may have mentioned something on 5-Live on Saturday morning.

Please stop it G1!! 😀

IIRC – XM594 pretty much emptied on Saturday when ‘558 was finally confirmed as being in the area; but sadly it only did fly-bys and it did not fly over the museum site!

Nevertheless ‘558 attracted a lot of attention – including lots of ‘temporary’ visitors on both the airfield, in NAM’s car parks and all along Drove Lane.

Glad to see we may have some more Cockpit-Fest visitors!! 🙂

Sorry that I didn’t get the chance for a longer chat at the weekend, but hopefully you got some good pointers to where the action was! 😉

Some nice pictures to remind everyone of the disappointing weather – another mini album of ‘558 flying shots was added to the museum gallery earlier today!!

Nice image G1 – more of a ‘deserted’ one on a Saturday night.

Sorry that I didn’t get chance for more of a chat, but it was rather hectic over the weekend, what with 3 TV crews and hundreds of ‘Vulcan questions’ on Saturday; followed by the torrential rain on Sunday.

😮 I’d like to say that ‘Lake Winthorpe’ by the Meteor NF14 was being trialled for some flying boat options for Cockpit-Fest, but that wouldn’t be correct!

Unfortunately the recent ground works elsewhere on the Southfield Site have highlighted some low spots on the original hard standing areas, which have still to be resolved. The original intention was to have the work completed before the V-Force event but sadly the bad weather curtailed the availability of suitable road planings for doing the work at NAM!

All should be fixed before June, but if not bring your cosies and we’ll be looking for volunteers to take it in turns as lifeguards. Perhaps Flying Saucer could hire out the life raft!! 😀

A brief resume about this weekend’s brilliant V-Force event has gone onto the news page on the museum website and a small album of photographs has been added to the Museum Gallery!

Thanks for the good wishes – I’ll need them, we now have 3 different BBC film crews on site tomorrow!!

Plus the BBC Things To Do link for the event has been brilliant and has delivered a lot of visitors to the museum website!

Fingers crossed that the Cockpit-Fest one does the same!! 🙂

Glad that you enjoyed the BDO, but I’m sorry about the weather.

This was the fourth time NAM has participated; the three previous BDO’s have been earlier in the season (IIRC – before all were in March); this year we had the worst weather ever and the lowest turnout. That said this time it also coincided with free sessions at the NT!

The BDO helps give a little bit back to the local community and keeps us in contact with the local BBC – I’ve done two radio pieces with them in the last 10 days; plus we have two different film crews at the museum this weekend for the V-Force event (so guess who I’m helping to look after all day Saturday??) 😉

We’re also slated to be assisting them with some additional filming next month!

As always when Wallace’s are mentioned I feel obliged to note that they are based on fuselage frameworks recovered from woods near RAF Cranwell by the founders of Newark Air Museum in the early 1960s and wing sections from the Bucks / Berks area!

The topic is fresh in my mind as they featured in the talk that I gave last night and will do again this evening!! 😉

106 Squadron left RAF Syerston in November 1943 and moved to Metheringham; with the Lancaster Finishing School forming at Syerston.

I’m currently helping with some research into some Australian personnel who went through Syerston in March / April 1944; and then onto 61 Squadron and 463 Squadron.
