Obviously your reputation precedes you sir! 😀
(Your visit came up in conversation with one of the staff members on Friday!) 🙂
That’s a nice view down the site in some very nice light – shame about the cold! Looking forward to seeing ‘Saturday’s Set!’
I understand that a ‘partial fix’ has been made to yesterday’s burst pipe in the gents.
Glad you made it and eventually managed to get on site through the ‘ceremony of the keys’ and all of the frozen locks!
With very low temperatures overnight I gather they’ve had a few problems with frozen locks on the aircraft that are displayed outside; although I understand the reserve plan has been put into operation and that the Varsity (in the relative warmth of Display Hangar 2) has been open today!
I hope that you got some good photos! 🙂
If it’s really bad weather there might not be anyone there when you get to Newark! 😉
Joking aside I would think that things should be OK tomorrow, but a lot of the ‘snow-cover’ has thawed off the aircraft today – anyway I thought that you were planning to try to photograph ‘Nimbus 500’ broomsticks tomorrow!!
I’m not sure whether this helps or not!
IIRC one of the Poyser ‘mock-ups’ arrived at Newark in poor condition in the late 1990s or perhaps early 2000. Unfortunately it suffered additional damage in heavy winds whilst in the Southfield Site; it was taken away for repair and never returned.
It had a brown and green paint scheme – sorry I’m not a Spitfire expert! 😉
I cannot resist – have a stall here!! 😀
Open as normal!
Another ‘weather watch /opening status report’ has been added to the museum website this morning!
The museum is open and hopefully the Open Cockpit Week that is due to start tomorrow should go ahead as normal – however people are being advised to check before they set out! 🙂
On 10m rolls – certainly available in the UK; I guess local supply may be different in other countries.
Sadly not really amongst the aviation maintenance tapes that I am sometimes involved with!
The most common widths available are:
25mm
50mm
75mm
100mm
Other sizes can usually be cut to order.
Project wise the museum where I volunteer is in a similar position!
Good luck with yours!!
There is ‘some’ useful information on this topic in this thread http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=108391 🙂
Worked for a company who sold CM UK some packing equipment – IIRC they are now based in Suffolk somewhere!
Vulcan XM594 – clear for delivery!
Twenty nine years ago, on 7th February 1983, at about this time (1110 hours) the museum received the green light for the delivery of Vulcan XM594 to Winthorpe – an anniversary that has been briefly remembered in this week’s Object of the Week item on the NAM website! 🙂
Typo(s)!! 😀
I don’t believe that the museum was ever interested – to help answer another forumite’s question I was just reporting on a telephone call that was made to the museum last week . From what I understand this particular Wessex was “…..too good to turn down!”
The museum’s Wessex HC,2 XV728 has been tucked up nice and warm inside Display Hangar 2 since 2004/5 – it may even see a few visitors next week if we get enough cockpit openers out!! 😉
A brief update from over the weekend – if you post around here thanks to everyone who responded ‘off-board’, it’s greatly appreciated. 🙂
Plus one further complication – the current wing set that will hopefully be used in any possible rebuild is not the original one that came with the fuselage! 😮
I’ve since been advised that the figure quoted in post #10 included delivery! 😉
