Following a meeting of the museum trustees earlier this week a strategy for the development of the Southfield Site has been agreed and outline details can be found here!

As we start to move towards the ‘holiday fortnight’ and visitors to Newark Air Museum are already experiencing the joys of Easter Egg hunting and the chance to access cockpits of the Vulcan and the like; I just wanted to flag up something for next month.

So as a prelude to the Canberra Anniversary celebrations in May a new Album of Canberra photographs has just been put online here – hopefully they’ll be of interest!

Also you don’t have to be aircrew to be granted a Goldfish Club award – just to have used a dinghy or life-raft! 😉

Audio files now available!

A new page and associated weblink has just been added to the museum website.

From the headphones on the Audio Page you can download audio files about some of the museum’s aircraft and displays.

Plus like it says on the page the museum is also looking for feedback about these audio clips – enjoy!

Easter open cockpits

The museum’s received a lot of calls during the last few days about open cockpits during the Easter Holiday period.

We aim to have cockpits open as and when volunteers are available to look after them. At present they’re due to have the Vulcan open today and tomorrow (18th April) and then there’ll be others open on April 23rd and April 25th – hopefully other days will also be possible as volunteers come forward.

Don’t forget the Easter Egg Hunt activity starts tomorrow for the younger visitors – we hope this will have an :diablo: ‘eggceptional turnout of visitors’!!

Cockpit count now tops 10 for this years event; details listed in here – plus there’re a couple of new associated displays listed!

The cockpit list includes three first time participants – keep them coming!! 🙂

Likewise I’m sorry Peter, but there are genuine connections.

The county aviation booklet links all of Nottinghamshire’s airfields and aviation memorials and is being funded by a grant from the County Council. They are also providing grants for display boards at memorials; and hopefully Herb’s crew may get a new display board at Staunton (I gave jr the appropriate contacts to pursue this last years) that follows a similar style to the one unveiled last weekend over at Halam (Notts County Council grant as well, plus two Canadians in the crew).

As Balderton is perhaps even closer to Staunton than Bottesford (where Herb was trying to land) it’s important it is linked to the Staunton site as part of the Notts aviation booklet project. Balderton also has strong Royal Canadian Air Force links and hopefully this will also be highlighted by the proposed memorial.

Plus I hope that you’ll agree that anything that raises awareness of these memorial initiatives is a good thing!

The Tawny Owl pub was discussed as a location but it’s off the former RAF Balderton site; at my suggestion, I believe that the people raising funds for the memorial have been in contact with BPB Formula re a possible site on Staple Lane.

It’s a bit like digitising collections, photographs and objects – i.e. all part of the ‘remit’ to widen participation and enhance audience development; all important criteria for any grant funding application here in the UK!! 😉

Plus the US resource is excellent.

An excellent resource – it makes Newark’s effort look meagre! 😮

Still they should be adding a new audio section shortly – but still not up to this standard!
