I beleive that one of the Anson photos in the Collecting Aeroplanes Album here was taken at Southend – PM me if you’d like a copy for the site; there might also be a couple of other photos that I’ve seen from there as well! 😉

I’ll be posting around these parts when the booklets arrive and I can even drop some in at the pub as a I often pass en route to Balderton (another memorial in the pipeline for RAF Balderton as well!!) 🙂

My understanding (founded on general chat) was that the glazing aided photography / reconniassance opportunities whilst making approaches over potentially sensitive areas.

This was highlighted by flight plans often being filed over sensitive sites / locations – pre ‘Opensky’ days to maximise opportunities for such activities! :confused:

Don’t forget there’s an Aeroboot running alongside Cockpitfest again this year; bookings are coming in steadily, with several first timers booking pitches details here!

The combined effort still works very well and it’s a credit to the crew.

It’s good to hear that you’re making progress re the interpretation board at Staunton (my fee for photo usage is very modest); Newark’s also hoping to secure some funding to do something similar for RAF Winthorpe. I really sense that the County Council is starting to appreciate Nottinghamshire aviation heritage. 😀

I’m just starting to gear up for the booklets arriving – I suspect that there’ll be lots of mailing work to be done; as well as getting copies out into the other local aviation attractions and TICs.

Today I have been participating in the ‘Heritage Lottery Fund East Midlands Consultation Event’ here in Nottingham – where I was pleased to find that my views were reasonably well in keeping with the vast majority of the other participants!!

If you have 30 minutes to spare you can also contribute!

Please consider flag waving for the transportation and industrial heritage sector – you know it makes sense!! 🙂

Thanks for that – 11 Squadron marking are perhaps an option!

Noticed today that in the Workshop the upper surfaces of the Meteor NF14 are also having paint applied!! 😀

Hosting a ‘mini behind the scenes’ visit to Newark Air Museum by the Milton Keynes Model Club.

Closely followed by a similar experience with a Finnish aviation writer who was also visiting the museum.

Finally I was privileged to meet the family of a World War II airman who was killed in a 1661 HCU Lancaster crash in Nottinghamshire on 10 April 1943 – they were in the county for a new memorial dedication that takes place tomorrow. I gave them a brief overview of RAF Winthorpe and 1661 HCU and I’m looking forward to meeting them again tomorrow; where traffic patrol duties beckon for me and my son!! 🙂

….At the present Newark’s major project is the Southfield Development Project.

Admittedly it is not a ‘return to flight’ or similar aircraft specific scheme, but it is vitally important to the ongoing development and sustainability of the museum and all of the items in its care.

Today I have had email communications with three potential funding bodies, who may be able to provide support for the Southfield Site Project. Two of those were preliminary enquires about possible future support, whilst the third was in relation to a meeting tomorrow to determine whether funds are likely to be available for the project….

I thought that a brief update might be appropriate – this afternoon’s ‘funding meeting’ was very positive and I’m hopeful of a successful long-term outcome for this particular opportunity!! 😀

It’ll be a pleasure – I hadn’t noticed your location until this morning; I was in Montreal last August visiting relatives; plus an extended holiday there in 1975 and watching loads of Twin Otters come in to land at the airport is where my forum name derives from!!

If you let me know when you’re about to visit I’ll try and arrange for the red carpet to be out; pagen knows the form – at least I could arrange a short guided tour! 🙂

We’re also very proud of our Canadian connections in Newark with both personnel training at 1661 HCU at RAF Winthorpe and those that served at RAF Balderton, RAF Syerston etc.
