    I was out as well!

However I’m reliably informed that they literally ‘turned up’ at Newark one day and things moved on from there!

No problem Blue 2 – I just didn’t want anyone to forget NAM!! 😀

TO, I spoke to Peter later – no problem.
You disappeared quick, I was going to say I agreed with you on the last subject debated.

I thought it best to get out in one piece!! 😀

Only joking – family BBQ to attend!

As for the debate I’m not sure what difference my comments will have really made! 😉

I’ve just tried to find another thread in which this topic was discussed in a bit more detail – without success. 🙁

IIRC last summer a ‘multi-department team’ visited various potential host museums / locations to canvas interest – IIRC this was a first! 🙂

On ‘another thread’ figures of between £12k to £18k each have IIRC been mentioned!

IMHO the days of getting on a disposal list are long gone!!

    Graham,

The Nimrod disposal topic has been partially covered here http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=98782&highlight=Nimrod

I might be wrong but I don’t think that many have been gifted! 😉

    Monospar VH-UTH

In recent days Monospar VH-UTH has been enjoying some ‘temporary’ daylight, whilst some refurbishment work has been underway on the roof of Hangar 1.

    VH-UTH caught outside!

It was good to talk with you briefly on Saturday – I hope I didn’t get you into too much trouble re-engines!! 😮

For many years NAM had a nominal policy of keeping the aircraft in its last operational scheme / markings, which gradually has been relaxed in recent years.

I’ve tried to persuade NAM to return TG517 to its 1950s MET colour scheme; without luck due to the airframe mods that would be required along with the fact that the dark grey fades too quickly.

The Duxford Hastings looks superb in its ‘Operation Plainfare’ markings and the other’s in their red, white and grey schemes accurately reflect the mid to late Cold War training role so vital to the defence of this country!

As posted before, what is everyone’s hang-up with such a vital role as training?

IIRC eight Hastings were converted to T5 standard in 1959 and were allocated to the RAF Bombing School at RAF Lindholme – remained there until 1968.

TG517’s (NAM’s Hastings) last ops were from RAF Scampton with 230 OCU ‘1066 Squadron’ – and included 4 Operation Heliotrope Ops in the mid-1970s ‘Cod Wars’.

Footnote: some nice cleaning opportunities have arisen through use of some access equipment being used for Hangar 1 roof repairs – ‘reaches parts other cleaning equipment cannot reach!’ 😀

As some people will know the museum has a split site, part is leased and the other (Southfield site – Hangar 2) it owns. Technically on the leased site the museum cannot sub-let, hence why the Aeroboot is held on the Southfield Site.

If anyone needs to swap items the best plan is to come right along the taxiway and into the grass field car parking area.

We currently have a few issues regarding the taxiway car parking, which wasn’t helped a couple of years ago by one individual ‘setting up shop’ and trading from that area after he’d been declined a pitch at the Aeroboot. 😡

Welcome Laurence, I’ve mentioned Newark Cemetery a couple of times is the past, most recently here http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=98287&highlight=Syerston

Keep up the good work with your Visitor Centre project.

Regarding the Ransome and Marles thread my late grandfather was one of the ARP Team that went in when the factory was bombed. I would really like to see the hidden hospital on the RHP site developed.

NAM’s potential interest was notified in autumn 2008, but everything went cold – with the R1 still a possibility down here, NAM would now be out of the picture!

Go for it someone – NAM potentially has a bigger project to occupy its time and resources!

Before everyone gets too carried away I just need to gently re-emphasise a couple of points made on the Briefing thread:

You have to pre-book to have a stand at the Aeroboot that runs alongside Cockpit-Fest – there will be NO pitches available on the day.

Also, at the request of the landlord a no trading restriction will apply to the taxiway car parking area!

Cockpiteers are OK to ‘operate’ from their display areas.

I’m sure the RAFM survey of the Comet was mentioned last year somewhere in here http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=91279&highlight=Comet+Lyneham

Having read the survey I don’t think a morning would cover the move!
