I’ve just heard today’s weather forecast (not raining in Nottingham yet) so I though I’d just post this reminder about what’s on display inside at Newark.
I would also like to confirm that the new Jaguar cockpit will be moved outside to join the visiting cockpits at Cockpit-Fest 2010! 🙂
Addendum: the rain started @ 9.05am!!
Cockpit-Fest 2010 – 19 & 20 June
Update 05 has just been added to the Museum website!
That’s very sad news – he was a true gentleman.
Before anyone says otherwise – the MiG-21 cockpit was never owned by NAM!
IIRC it was ex Wycombe Air Park.
2010 May – June Open Cockpits
NAM’s website now showing details of the cockpits that will be open during the forthcoming half-term week. If the weather’s bad don’t forget a lot are inside. 🙂
:diablo: Perhaps they might dock it on the side of the new BoB tower @ Hendon! 😀
Night Photo Shoot 23 October 2010
Details have been posted on the NAM website this morning about the next night photo shoot on 23 October 2010.
More details can be found on the News Page!
I can find no record of XJ758 ever been displayed at Cockpit-Fest … now I’m sure they could find some space this year!! 🙂
As far as I am aware we still do:)- XP902- its an ex-falkland conflict veteran
along with Seaking XV677 and Gazelle XX411-please look at the website http://www.aeroventure.org and you’ll find photo’s of them all.
From my pictures I see that XP902 appeared at Cockpit-Fest in 2002 and 2003! Winning a special prize at the 2002 event!! 🙂
Didn’t Aeroventure have a Scout cockpit c/w access ramp for wheelchair access?
If you PM me an email address I’ll send you some pictures from XX492 at Newark – IIRC it’s reasonably complete! 🙂 (not good memory after all!!) 😮
Not enough account left to post pictures on here!!
Then I remembered http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showpost.php?p=1318766&postcount=2
Since this was taken more items have been added – I can take some more next time I visit if it helps!
Update 26.05.10
The loan of the crates, panels etc will be a huge boost to helping return the cockpit of XS417 to normality in the weeks ahead.
From discussions held at museum last night I understand that XS417 may not be moved into its ‘repainting position’ prior to Cockpit-Fest. This delay will allow more flexibility for bringing the museum’s Jaguar cockpit out onto display for the event.
I also understand that there are more cockpits to be added to the participation list for Cockpit-Fest but the organiser hasn’t forwarded these on the ‘NAM webbie’ yet!
Sadly nothing further to report re-the R1! 🙁
Footnote: The Shackleton Association have a stall at Cockpit-Fest so that would be a good opportunity to catch up on any Shackleton gossip!! 😀
Some interesting points about these two airframes have been made several times before:

I dare say Mo Botwood would also have some insight into the situation!
I don’t think import/export fees are a massive problem when it’s a non commercial deal between two countries that are in the European union for museum use.
IIRC Malta acceded to membership of the EU in 2004 and therefore it should constitute a ‘Movement within the European Union’ and all that you might need is an End User Certificate.
That said I’m not 100% certain whether their delivery date to Cyprus might affect this status, as I’m not sure when Cyprus joined the EU.
The country of manufacture should not be an issue.
There no mention of …………….except in the signature! 😀
😮 What me? 😀
Not every one!!
