    Safely inside!

    The museum website is now reporting that the Jaguar cockpit now has a new under cover home at NAM …

    “Update 27.04.10

    Earlier today sufficient space was cleared inside Hangar 1 to allow the Jaguar cockpit to be moved under cover. Its new display position is conveniently located just inside the hangar doors, which will allow for it to be moved outside for special events or potentially to be transported off site to be displayed at other events.” 🙂

    The 2001 NAHR edition lists XB259 as – Significant; plus it was still resident at The Museum of Army Transport!

    Great V-Force gathering today – but there’s still chance to particpate / meet people tomorrow.

    They even managed to get things sorted to get the Jaguar cockpit open as well! Along with many other museum aircraft!! 😀

    Further information shows the sight was removed to fit a screen of some sort for its last role as a recruiting aid – the question to be debated now is whether to put a screen back to represent this era and its ‘recruitment role’, or to take it back to a pure airframe configuration! :confused:

    As yet I haven’t seen the cockpit unit but I understand that it’s parked alongside the Small Objects Exhibition Hall. From what I’m hearing I don’t necessarily think that it will be open for people to look in this weekend.

    The only additional information I have is that the cockpit is complete except for the gun sight! 🙂

    Interesting question!

    One of the opening comments reads – “The National Aviation Heritage Register includes all airframes held by organisations that are open to the public on a regular basis – defined as at least weekends throughout the summer months without the need for prior arrangement. etc etc”

    So would WR963 qualify? :confused:

    There are 3 categories:

    National Benchmark (top listing possible)
    Significant
    Noteworthy

    NAM has aircraft in each category see here!

    Hopefully when the new NAHR is published they will have further additions to the National Benchmark category; this will be due to the aircraft that went under cover in Hangar 2 having their status elevated. 🙂

    WR963 wasn’t on the 2001 edition – but 7 others were listed!

    I saw the interview in front of the rather smart red JP as well!

    As for the NAHR, we’ll have to try and get the Jaguar cockpit added as well! 😀

    It sounds as though some of your students went ‘off message’ – congratulations to the instructors for teaching such excellent skill sets!! 😀

    IMHO a bit of a strange place to visit, when you’re advocating getting rid of RDAs! :confused:
