Sounds good – I didn’t see you on the ‘Live News Broadcast’ that’s just gone out on the BBC!! :diablo:
Breaking News!
I was going to start a separate thread but I’ve decided to keep it on here – Newark’s latest exhibit has just arrived!
This is a Jaguar cockpit and basic details can be found here
More details expected to filter out over the weekend. 😀
galdri,
Somewhere amongst this search http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/search.php?searchid=2797516 you may find details, because in the past I have posted some explanations about how the NAHR works.
The concept / methodology cover about 6 pages and the detailed listing about 50 pages. However LL’s suggestion is the best one, but they might be out of print. The new version should have been printed months ago!
All that said I’m still a great believer in the NAHR – especially as it helped NAM secure £453,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund towards the cost of building Hangar 2; the balance of funding circa £100,000 being raised by the museum volunteers and staff! 🙂
Tribute to the V-Force
Another update after today’s test runs – after successfully testing the system for the first time this year; it is now planned to operate the Vulcan APU on both days of the event, which will enable the systems to be cycled i.e. operate the bomb doors, air brakes etc. 🙂
Thanks Mark! 🙂
Beat me to it Peter!!! 😀
Done
How about finding the sunken ship with the Highball Mossies on ?????
Perhaps his previous exaggerations were still in evidence; as both carriers seemed to have survived!!
There are references to the Highball Mosquitos on the HMS Fencer link below
http://www.royalnavyresearcharchive.org.uk/ESCORT/FENCER.htm
http://www.royalnavyresearcharchive.org.uk/ESCORT/STRIKER.htm
So what happened to the aircraft and munitions?
Tribute to the V-Force
In response to many phone calls to the museum I have been asked to advise that the Tribute to the V-Force event this weekend has been granted a flypast from the BBMF Dakota on Saturday 24th April – time still to be confirmed! 🙂
Signed up last week – but I understood it was another Upkeep being recovered!
The Highball topic reminds me of an early work encounter with a storeman back in 1977 / 78. He was always prone to exaggerate anything he told you, so when he told me of ‘Highball’ Mosquitoes being shipped to the Far East on HMS Fencer and HMS Striker – I immediately questioned the validity of his story!
I was suitably put in my place the following day when he showed me his pictures from on-board, with all the aircraft stored on deck. An interesting aside was that one of the vessels was sunk and that should have been the one he was on, but he had ‘suffered’ a very lucky mix-up with his posting!
Why does the word ‘training’ have such a negative connotation?
The roles of all the ‘training’ aircraft, units and personnel are a vital aspect of any operational service, a fact partially touched on here…. http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=97073&highlight=HCU
I thought it was a ‘sweet’ reply, but how many ‘lumps’ might you find? 😀
The move to Mildenhall was partly touched on here http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=55347&highlight=U2
… on reflection the date might be slightly later 1978 or 79; but the patch and pin info is still correct.
I also know the pilot’s ‘name’, but if I tell you that I’d have to shoot you!! :diablo:
Just back from the museum – marquee being assembled ready for this weekends Tribute to the V-Force event.
Another Cockpit-Fest 2010 update has just been added to the News Page of the museum website – TEN cockpits now booked in; keep them coming everyone!! 😀
Checked this morning and NAM now only has one Airfield Control Unit, which is a 2 axle / 4 wheeled unit!
PM me with an email address if you would like a picture – sadly out of space on here! 🙁
😮 Don’t let the Planning Authorities see that picture!
To get NAM’s Engine Display Building approved the local Planning Department had to be driven to a couple of sites to see them in situ before they would grant Planning Permission – by all accounts modern computer based stress calculations show they are unsafe!
Were they right after all??? :diablo:
😀 Must go now – I’ve got a meeting with an Architect in the morning!! 😉
