If any of the airframes survived and were moved back to the UK I guess the potential radioactive contamination would really give the UK Health & Safety people something new to get their teeth into!

Try the ‘preservation bible’ – Wrecks & Relics. Experience suggests that the latest edition [20th] would have most things covered. I’m sure the MAM shop will have a copy on its shelves!

Some slightly differing views appearing on local TV this evening and the PFA have already put up a spokesperson.

The housing issue has been doing the rounds in the area for a while now, with a couple of successful local campaigns to stop the Rushcliffe Council developing other local green-belt areas. Ultimately it all heads back down to parliament [Two Jags] and the issue of airfields being classed as ‘brown field land’. I can sense some lobbying coming on!

Wessex Boy – I hear what you say about JP’s Auster Aiglet but not so sure about ‘his business?’

Not answering your specific question re SE-LAL, but related to the Norwegian Safirs the following may add to your information search.

The Newark Air Museum guide book lists the 91B version – 56321 at their museum as being “flown to the museum from Norway on 14th July 1982 by two serving Norwegian Air Force officers, Lt Stig Halvorsen and Lt Peter Reymert”.

The airframe is displayed inside and I understand that the airframe is on loan from Norway. It is also pictured on the top of the aircraft list page on their website.

    David,

Difficult to photograph due to its current location, but have just come across the following on the Airscene website.

    http://www.airsceneuk.org.uk/scene.htm

Also forgot to mention that the Buccaneer was also being worked on, upper wing surfaces and rear fuselage.

Called in at Newark today and saw that the Saab Viggen is now on its undercarriage and substantially complete. All the tail sections have been refitted and there are still a few panels to be refitted, but nevertheless looking impressive.

In hangar 1 the Chipmunk fuselage WB624 has appeared out of storage and is mounted on a small set of wheels. It was positioned at the back behind the Annular biplane replica. According to their website it may soon be reassembled.

I agree with Melvyn Hiscock’s comments and credit due to VTTS’s last minute efforts.

Your ‘stirring’ must come from all the excellent painting work that’s being done at MAM!

I hope the paint doesn’t end up sticking on the brush!! 😉

From pictures I’ve seen that were taken at Cosford, summer 1981 [Control Column magazine] both the MAM Javelin Mk.5 and the FAW.8 that went to Newark Air Museum both had sections of their rear fuselages missing.

Although the FAW.8 at Newark is now inside the reheat section on this airframe still seems to be missing. At least MAM have managed to secure a replacement ‘nib’.

Judging by the MAM pictures they seem to be having a lot of work to do on the wing air brake sections [think that’s what they are], I saw similar work under way at Newark earlier this year.

While the Hastings at Newark is rumoured to be available for sale (unconfirmed)…

Rumours of Hastings TG517 at Newark Air Museum ever being for sale are I believe greatly exaggerated!!

I know that the aircraft is now safely on the books of this Registered Museum as I am told that it was most generously gifted to the museum several months ago by its original owner.

Is this ‘new’ museum idea the same one that was rumoured to be being planned several years ago for Driffield or Dishforth?

Pledges are one thing, but it’s hard earned cash that will pay the bills.

I seem to recollect a lot was pledged before but turning those pledges into cash in the bank has always been the problem!

According to the latest Newark Air Museum Guide Book the MiGs they have on loan from Hawarden Air Services are as follows:

    Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23ML “Flogger” – 024003607 “07”

    Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-27K “Flogger” – 61912507006 “71”

But it may be that the MiG-23, ’07’ is an early M type not an ML; also the MiG-27, ’71’ might not be a K variant as this had a different and more sophisticated Laser Rangefinder in the nose.

Both are listed as having been delivered from Hawarden, Clwyd on May 22nd 2002.

Both aircraft are in the aircraft list on the museum website http://www.newarkairmuseum.co.uk

Hi TwinOtter – no, I will be off to Washington, Cleveland and Reno at the end of August for 3 weeks, and probably next visit my family around Christmas – but almost always visit the Newark Museum when I am there.

It will be a bit cold cycling along the back road through Coddington at that time of the year!

Hopefully the Viggen will be complete by then and officially handed over by the Swedish Embassy.

My favourite must be the A21-A3 and the Viggen comes a close second, can’t wait till the one at Newarks is completed.

Word when last at Newark was that the Viggen might be coming off its jacks tomorrow [August 20th] – subject to volunteer labour availability!

So far nothing reported on their website http://www.newarkairmuseum.co.uk

Last Wednesday both main undercarriages had been refitted, but were still undergoing post-refit checks.

Tail unit and then thrust reverser unit still have to be refitted.

Papa Lima – are you holidaying at Balderton this year?

Over the last three or four year’s I have personally ‘encountered’ various members of the VTTS, VOC and their various associated groups / supporters; these ‘encounters’ are well documented and relate to several aspects of the project and would make interesting reading once the inevitable dust has settled.

Having carefully considered the most recent appeals, reviewed their various press statements, read their accounts / auditor’s reports etc the politest overall description I can muster is “naive arrogance!”

Not heard or seen much about the Monospar for more than 12 months or so.

The link below shows most recent coverage that I have scene!! 😉
