Apparently no damage was caused to either the engine or the underside of the wing/flaps etc.

Its a ‘wet-run’ performed after an engine has been in storage for a while, excess storage-oil and fuel is burnt off on ignition, the reason this one is so spectacular is that the fuel didn’t ignite on the first attempt leading to slightly more fuel than normal being ignited! 😮 🙂

Apparently the tailplane/section broke off at – or about – the rotation point of the take-off run, the BBC are now reporting that a video of the accident shows this happening.

Nice!…..particularly the RF-4EJ.

Thanks Andy, I had a feeling they were summat t’ do with the BTCC races at Donno, guess I’ll just have to pile up to EMA in the morning and hope I see the buggers depart! 🙂

They’ve been at EMA all weekend so they aren’t the Stansted jets, apart from the the fact that fully armed fighters would not land at a commercial airport following a live scramble! 😉

Have to agree with Bedford, the third photo is definitely at Bedford, the strange looking F-4K was a full-scale mock-up used to test the compatability of the the F-4K with the BXS4 steam catapult, the odd looking tail is actually an enormous hook which engages the raised wire visible in the picture to slow the aircraft to a halt after ‘launch’.

Salutations!

Excellent! Glad its still in one piece and not gone the way of most of the other ex-RAF machines!
-Dazza 🙂
Nice pics, was ‘Black Mike’ on display?
-Dazza
Probably a common part because I’ve definitely seen that type of stick-top in the back of Rhinos.
-Dazza 🙂
Ja, its the stick-top from the rear cockpit of an F-4.
