One of the best colour schemes ever to grace a Phantom.

The canards had 20 degrees of movement.

Definately not an accidental firing, no smoke plume from the rocket motor for a start, and I doubt the pilot would be stupid enough to land with the ‘MASTER ARM’ switch in any other position than ‘SAFE’!
Great sequence of photos though.

A copy of the conclusion of a report by QinetiC was posted on pprune, which made quite depressing reading, however the mods have removed the post because a lot of the info is not in the public domain yet, QinetiC had identified a number of flight safety related technical problems which must be adressed before its release to service.

Nice! 😎

Great photos, I thought it was only the T.4s that had a habit of venting fuel when they ran their engines up prior to take-off, but the last photo shows that the GR.3 does this as well.

Superb pictures as usual WD!

Great pics!
The Lightning that is currently at Binbrook is F.6 XR724, it was flown in from RAF Shawbury on 23rd July 1992.
-Dazza 🙂
On the Lightning the overwing pylons were a necessity because the MLG retracted outwards into the wing leaving almost no room for underwing pylons, drag was an issue however and the overwing tanks were hardly ever fitted to the F.6 fleet during their RAF careers, although they were refitted to the Warton test fleet (XP693,XR724,XS904,XR773,XS928)in support of Foxhunter radar trials with the Tornado.
