Is there any practical reason why this has not been done?
Aerodynamic drag, pure and simple…

Absolutely brilliant! What a great way to promote the airline and inject a little fun back into the air travel industry, there’s a certain well known european no-frills carrier that could learn a thing or two from the peeps at Kulula…

I say, they should’ve kept the ADV airframe and made it multi-role
They have, sort of, with the RTP program most of the bits from the F.3s are ending up in the GR.4s! 😉
Seriously though, the F.3 would’ve made a credible multi-role jet, especially with the extra internal fuel and more powerful motors, and the EF.3s during their short existence were said to have been very capable SEAD platforms…

Wonder if the JCB driver…
Its not a JCB, its a KOMATSU…

I cant see the UK having the money for any MPA for a long time.
Partly right, the money could be found, at the expense of other more ‘worthy’ needs… When all is said and done, spending money on defence is not something the majority of the UK public are impressed by, or concerned with, and as such politicians are loath to make any increase in defense spending because it is not a vote winner. Given the complete horse’s @rse the current encumbents are making of the horse’s @rse the last encumbents left them with, votes are what they are going to be desperate for come election time!

Why would it have been at a commercial airport?
Why not? VC-10s have been into my local at East Mids on many occassions for a variety of reasons, diversion, training (ILS/NDB approaches etc) picking up or dropping of military personnel and so on…

This work is unique to the UK and necessitates being named after a varnish/cider in order to hide its true nature.
Made I larf did that!

Glad someone got to see it, i was sitting patiently waiting for this to arrive at EMA this evening where it was originally due for painting!
Anyway, i imagine it’ll end up looking similar to this http://www.worldairpics.com/photo/1044636/M/Boeing-737-322/JY-JAO/Jordan-Aviation-R5–JAV/
JY-JAO passed through EMA a couple of weeks back for painting.

F-4 is a classic 🙂
Not historic, still operated by:
Egyptian AF?
Iranian AF??
Egypt still operates a couple of squadrons of F-4Es I think as does Iran, along with a very few RF-4Es and F-4Ds, F-4Ds may well be out of service by now though…

P.S. Theres a GAF F-4F in the static line-up for Waddington now as well!
Good thread running on PPRuNe about this incident… http://www.pprune.org/rumours-news/488489-air-japan-ana-incident-nrt.html

I don’t know the answer to your question but I saw this on flickr the other day..

Thanks for that, I’ll pass the info on to the person who asked me to see if this was actually the A300 he saw.

Isn’t the Luftwaffe retiring the F-4F this year?
I believe its by this time 2013 that they are finally withdrawn from service…

Hi there, this is probably not the best forum for that kind of information, you may be better off trying here- http://www.pprune.org/ there are a number of forums such as flight testing and military amongst others which are probably better suited to help you with your enquiry.

the Empire Test Pilot’s School’s twin seat Gripen is based in Britain.
Nope, the ETPS Gripen is/was based at Saab’s facility at Linkoping, ETPS students fly it, and other Gripens, from there.

Regarding the Typhoon supplement in AIR International. Indeed, very good pieces and it would be helpful if some people that doubt the aircraft gave it some attention. Theres a lot to read upon, direct quotes from the pilots that operate the Typhoon.
It won’t make any difference, the Rafale mafia will still claim its all propaganda and say, “…well they would say that wouldn’t they!”
