Indeed; if you remove the ‘colour’ from my post, the point is a simple one: every dollar that is invested in platforms optimised for loitering in permissive airspace and plinking PGMs at targets that can’t shoot back is a dollar less for platforms that can be usefully employed in even a medium-intensity combat environment.

The key thing people miss about the utility of the B-52, Atlantique, etc. is that these aircraft already exist, having been created and maintained for other purposes. The costs have already been sunk. Creating and inducting a new large aircraft platform specifically for that secondary or tertiary tasking is a whole different ballgame — one that nobody wants to play.

Why would one be ‘butt hurt’ over a victory?

That’s just it — here we are having a simple discussion about Argentina’s apparent plans to recapitalise its air force with Gripen E/F, and you come in chanting God Save The Queen and raving about F-35s. It’s childish and petulant.

In past I have supported Argentinian modernization and still do and feel they need at least 4 Frasser OPV-80 ships better transport helicopters and of course new interceptors just for starters but as I have have also said in the past most of all they need to change there thinking gripen or no gripen there is a lot of work to do before the air-force will be back to fighting force

The combination of indignation, whining, and general butthurt exhibited by many of our British posters here is rather unbecoming, but certainly amusing.

What about having Embraer integrate EL/L-8247/8 & EL/M-2052 as a temporary measure until the Gripen E/F MLU done with local developments 10 to 15 years down the road?

As an Argentina-only solution the cost of that integration would have to be borne entirely by Argentina — at least I don’t see any reason why Brazil or SAAB would be willing to cough up cash for it. It might be worth it, depending on the timelines and capabilities of indigenous systems in development. I guess Argentina will be in a better position to assess these things a few years down the track.
