What they are suggesting is prepoesterous. The captain though the system was working fine, and worked with it. I don’t see any circum,stance except in a full syustem failure that he would have to revert to the last resort of “looking out the window”.
I would be interested to read the full report if and when it ever makes it online.

Those 767s are interesting for spotters, but pretty grubby for passengers. MAD looks a really good airport for spotting, last time I was there I was 3 years old 😀

But surely the tower controller would have know the plane was there, calling for clearance taxi etc, any morse code clickity messages or whatever would not be neccessary?

There aren’t that many airports with more than one terminal!
