They have 57 744s and have never sold any of them yet, although like Sandy says 15 are expected to go, possible to Cathay. BA wouldn’t be able to afford the planes as such, although I know very few airlines that buy their planes outright rather than either leasing them, or borrowing the money in the first place.
Whether it would be a good idea to add to their mountain of debt is a different question though…
Yup, this has been on the cards for a while now. BA still have a vast amount of options on the 777 fleet, operations do not now justify 57 747-400s considering a number of these are parked up at Heathrow anyway, capacity reduction and fleet modernisation is now the order of the day.
Agreed, that plane must be very near MTOW I reckon.
Thanks for the input Skypilot, to be honest I don’t think I have ever seen a Viscounts cockpit, it just seemed to match a stereotype I had of it, lots of funny levers and knobs (More so than a Dash 8 I would have said, but you’ve flown them a bit more than me 😀 ) and they all seem to be falling apart a bit in the front too, not to mention the back where I could move the fittings about an inch fom where they should have been!
Looking forward to going there for a weekend in May! On a 767-300 too I might add 😀
Your BA 767 would have been G-BNWH, same as always, flying to JFK.
Hmm, for some reason I thought they were ER3s. Oh well
Happy Birthday Steve! 🙂
Great news trident man. About the demolition of West Base though, that is a pretty big site, is the whole thing coming down, or just certain hangars?
T5, don’t get too excited about the 767s, they are arguably the worst planes in the BA fleet pax wise 🙁
Cheaper
735? According to my book B733, A319, and A320 are all Air malta operates?
I think it will be a 135 as Eastern don’t have any 145s. At the moment the oil companies charter aircraft to fly Norwhich – Groningen quite a lot, so it makes sense for Eastern to actualy sell the surplus seats to general members of the public.
Its the one that has been targeted. There are 3 BA flights to IAD and 1 to BWI a day and only the 223 has been targeted. One possibility is that it is purely the significance in the flightnumber, and so BA have nothing to lose with changing it to 293.
