All the talk of similarities with Swiss is a bit of a red herring.
Access to ZRH is vastly different than access to LHR…
Aloha never had 717s. All the 717s in Hawaii are owned by Hawaiian so I’m not sure what you’re on about if you’re not talking about 737-200s!
I was reading a newspaper saying that Hawaiian Airlines hopes to acquire some of the 717-200s that Aloha used to operate.. stating that they really like the type for inter island flights.. but that it is no longer produced and there is no alternative aircraft for them.
while introducing a new type will be costly, surely there are alternative aircrafts that are suitable for interisland flight yes?
I presume you mean 737-200s?
The aircraft are sat in Hawaii now so it would make sense to use them to bolster capacity. Saves on the expense of shipping aircraft out to Hawaii which can be a huge operation…
Are BA trying to run down the business just now to attract a takeover…? They certainly appear to be doing a good job of it.
Not at all. BA looks set to have made more money in the past financial year than at any other time in its history…
So with MAN-JFK converted to LGW-JFK does that see the end of regional long haul services from British (London) Airways…? Will a US airline that seem to operate UK regional services so much better step in with a MAN-JFK route and any truth in the rumour ‘Open Skies’ plan to operate out on MAN at some stage… ?
Its the end of regional services full stop really, not just long haul. The only flights from the regions go to London.
There is no hope in hell of Open Skies ever taking on the route, that was just something said by a BA manager to pacify the Aviance team at Manchester.
I have never been to Belarus myself but I have only ever heard horrendous things about Belavia.
Think Aeroflot pre 1990…
You’re screwed finance wise sadly. 🙁
Your only hope for getting a cheap ticket is to ring each and every airline and plead poverty, exceptional circumstances, whatever you can get away with, to get a good deal on a flight back to the mainland.
I can’t believe oneway flights are so expensive. 😡
Just to bring this back up as Dan is having a pretty rough time with flights currently.
First his 3 Aloha sectors got canned because the airline went bust, now today ATA have ceased flying operations so he doesn’t have a flight home from Hawaii!
I can think of worse places to be stranded but talk about a run of bad luck. 🙁
Not good, especially for Wannabe Pilot who has several sectors booked on them next week 🙁
Seems to be running normal today. Several tactical cancellations which are a knock on from yesterday, and pretty much everything going out about an hour late which has been par for the course at T1 and T4 for years now. 🙂
BA only moved half their flights across yesterday. The big crunch will be when the bulk of the long haul flights from T4 move across next month.
Thankfully we were only 3 hours late leaving for Athens and the Galleries First is a fantastic place to wait off a delay. Had I not had access to there though I’m sure my attitude would be slightly different…
I’m flying out of T5 tomorrow for Athens. I am hugely looking forward to the whole experience, in no small part down to my ability to enter the Galleries First Lounge. From all the pictures I’ve seen and the few BA staffers I have spoken to, it is meant to be an absolutely exquisite lounge, so I shall be sure to take lots of photographs from both inside and out to post on here. 😉
Why are they stopping?
All 757s are remaining in T1 on Thursday when the rest of the fleet transfers to T5. They will remain in T1 until September where they will transfer over to the new oneworld hub at T3.
All 757 Domestic flights will now be operated by A321s.

Hope you got a picture of it, only 3 more days of BA 757 ops into MAN 🙁
To save you looking, the last one is B.737.700 BBJ belonging to Usal Ltd. It visited Stansted in 2001 and 2003.:)
I think you’ll find it visited a little more than that!
