Thanks for the comments.
Perhaps the pilots might be able to clear up a query for me? Is it true that the 146 when descending maintains a significant nose down attitude right up until the flare? This appeared to be the case for both landings unless it’s some kind of optical illusion.
Also, the aircraft seemed to judder slightly every time we slowed down. I hadn’t noticed this with the 737?Finally, as the landings were smoother than those experienced on board the 737, is the landing speed of the 146 slower, or is it because the aircraft is lighter?

Not really a pilot, but having flown in the 146, and watched it land far too mant times:
a) Yes, it does have a significant nose down approach, sometimes more than others, but usualy more noticeable from watching outside rather than in.
b) I dont find that they always judder when they slow, however when the rear airbrake is extended, there is a noticeable pull, which on some of the older aircraft can make the airframe judder a bit.
c) A 146 lands at about 100kts, a 737 at about 130kts (very general averages there I know!) which will make the landing smoother. Its usualy just down to the ability of the landing pilot to pull off a greaser though 😉
Yesh I see what you mean, I think the photo does the scheme more justice than it deserves though!
Yup, and Wales is in the UK AND GB bmi-star 😉
Great report Kev, I am a big fan of the FlyBe 146 myself, as long as it isn’t the exact same one every time! I wasn’t aware the queen used G-DAEX, makes you wonder why we pay for a fleet of HS125s and BAe 146s for her to use
The BBJ is gone now, so for important games he uses the 767, on other occassions he has a myriad of “normal” biz jets at his disposal, if you can call a Bombardier Global Express a “normal” biz jet!
In some recent research I undertook, several BA flights on LHR-AMS had over 70 pax in Club. This is a huge revenue earner for BA, and if they arbritarily just removed it, there would be devastating consequences. The entire BA marketing campaign over the last few years has been focused on the frill involved with flying BA. If they abolish these frills then they unwind the entire brand, and again, I would be surprised if they got positive results.
I cant disagree with the Waterworld stance, BA is a very unnecessarily management top heavy organisation.
Nice shots. Judging by the Logo on the Falcon its one of the Cat Aviation ones.
Abramovich has a whole fleet of aircraft that follow Chelsea around in their games, its not always P4-MES but could quite easily be.
Onur never seemed to me the worst of the bunch in terms of some of the Turkish operators, Fly Air particularly scare the hell out of me.
Anyone got more details on this “incident” that prompted the Dutch authorites to take such drastic action?
Yup, they are on the website, but via AMS, there are no direct ones for sale, nor do BAA show them, nor Flytecomm.
i mean maastricht. Should have used MST in my previous post.
Ah I see. I dont think there are any Maastricht-LHR flights any more, my Dad needed to go there a few weeks back and the only option anybody could find was via AMS?
On a normal day KLM has 9 flights from AMS, 3 flights from EIN, 2 flights from MAA and 3 flights from RTM. In total there are 17 KLM (cityhopper) flights per day on a normal weekday. In the weekend I believe there are fewer flights.
2 flights from MAA? Thats Madras!
So if I’m reading that right, UAL will lose 6 of their 14 767’s.
At my count UAL have 37 767s, so I guess they are all spread out with different leasing companies?
Oh you are so bursting to tell everyone :D:D
There is pretty much a different livery on every plane now. Im beginning to think thats the plan and that they are not having a unified brand, after all its just the name that really needs to be known, and thats well placed among the major and not so major airlines already.
wannabe pilot is our new resident Titan expert, if he doesnt know now he certainly will in a couple of weeks (Matt: You WILL be jealous 😀 )
