It doesn’t stand for anything directly.

However the V* series of registrations denotes ex British colonial territories. Many countries abolished their V* prefix after independence (such as Hong Kong, who moved from VR-*** to B-***)

Countries that still retain the V prefix are:

    Antigua: V2
    Australia: VH
    Bermuda: VP-B
    Belize: V3
    Brunei: V8
    Cayman Islands: VP-C
    India: VT
    Namibia: V5
    Marshall Islands: V7
    Turks & Caicos Islands: VQ

VN is the only one that doesn’t really fit the pattern, but obviously that stands for Vietnam.

Also I’m not too sure about the Marshall Islands in that list either as they were never a British colony…

The timings of the PFO and MLA flights are horrendous. You won’t see me going anywhere near them thats for sure! 😮

I thought they had to give up slots @LHR due to the BMed takeover as some of them were originally owned by BA??? or i seem to remember BA paying for some BMI LHR slots too?

Correct. The actual transfer was at some time in the future though, so the operational details have been very sketchy…

Well the people of Inverness see the cancellation of their Heathrow service as having less to do with “lack of demand” as an attempt by Bmi to free up slots at LHR for other projects…

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/highlands_and_islands/7169480.stm

Which clearly isn’t the case as bmi are starting an 8th daily LHR-MAN by moving the current slot sitting LHR-LBA across the pennines.

A very contradictory press release at best, an outright lie at worst… 😡

Great report, nice catch with the TAP!

Sorry to hear about the divert, I was checking the METAR yesterday and the weather was very bad indeed. Thankfully all was well today (for very selfish reasons!) but the next few days look like they might be interesting up here too…

Nice shots! I saw the TAROM A310 on Christmas Eve, very unusual to see that one at LHR.

bmi are currently using both Monarch A330s for Hajj flights to Jeddah.

Nice catch mate! Was it just by chance you saw it coming in then?

Make sure you get some shots of the rescue mission too!

What on earth was that doing in North Wales anyway! Shuttling between Penzance and Aberdeen perhaps?

    Absolutely fantastic!

Jolly lucky getting the Citation Mustang too, must be one of the first visits to Europe of that type, I’ve certainly not see one before?

Hope that this doesnt mean they are going to leave LGW

MSP is being axed. DTW is moving to a 757. To be honest I doubt they will last at LGW beyond the summer season…

It is very similar to the Spanish Air Force markings. Presumably for good reason given how far the scheme dates back and the interchangeability between civil and military machines then.
