Everyone is entitled to their opinion on the colours scheme but so long as the aircraft is available lets hope that the airshow organisers invite her to their airshows, not just this year but also next year.
Does anybody know how long the sponsorship deal is for?
Since returning the Sea Vixen to the sky the team has not always been able to honour its display commitments due to unservicablity and pilot storage, this will mean that although booked and advertised the organiser will never know if she will arrive.
Most people have expressed their opinion about the Sea Vixen, a few have remembered Spencer Flack but what about Jonathan Whaley’s Hunter ? For several years G-PSST has flown in as Miss Demeanor in a very bright colour scheme, so why is that aircraft not more widely seen at airshows? Let be honest and say that we all want to see something new and this year hopefully it will be the Sea Vixen.

Roger. Can you find out more about this terrible news and where does it leave the owners and operators of historic aircraft if they can not fly and display in public. Do the Dutch FAA have any control over the military displays, if so this must surely put their show at risk also.

To BLUEROBIN – I would consider the advanced ticket price of £12 to be very good value for money. The Air Atlantique web site suggest that this will be the last airshow held at Coventry airport due to the proposed building of a new terminal next year, so go support the event and consider yourself lucky to live so close to what will hopefully be one of the highlights of 2003.

If anybody is going be advised that the military police will inform the civil police of any vehicles that stop and look over the fence. You will be stopped and searched and this will almost certainly delay your journey. Also note that very little is photographable from the outside, indeed it is not always possible see everthing that is in storage. On a positive side there are several well preserved airframes on the airfield. A Mirage III at the main gate and one or two others behind the admin building may not be easily seen from the airfield, this is worth a walk to search them out. Also on the opposite side of the main road from the airfield is a large admin building which has a pole mounted Mystere B2, at the last airshow this area was used for car parking.
Happy hunting.

As was the Bruntingthorpe Vulcan before somebody dreamt up an underfunded and unsustainable plan to fly her.
Don’t try to fix what is not broken.
There are more than enought projects which require support.

Hi Willow, So where does your beloved Sunderland fit into this thread then?
DOUGHNUT
p.s. have you been drinking again ?
I agree with ageorge that internet based rumours can be very easily reported as fact. But I believe what graeme C failed to add in his first thread was where this infomation came from. Am I right in guessing it was from the web site
http://www.preservedaxisaircraft.com/
This otherwise excellent site lists FW190F-8 wr Nu 5415 as being restored in New Zealand for the OFMC. I believe they are refering to the restoration company as having gone bust, not the OFMC. However it would be interesting to find out were this project is today. Any clues?

While not wishing to prejudge the new ‘Direction of Collections’ she is unlikely to be a aviation person and will be more concerned about the general public’s opinion of the whole museum. This is more likely to be the state of the toilets and than the condition of the aircraft.

Do we know which DC-2 this will be and where is it normally based.
Also regards old props have the two DC-4’s ever moved from North Weald since they arrived last year.

If the East Fortune Comet has to be scraped, and I hope that it does not come to that, could other museums be offered any usable parts for their own Comets, ie could the Mosquito museum make use of the centre section and undercarriage to mate to their fuselage?
On the subject of Comets do the BAA at Gatwick still have a Comet on the airfield, I think they used it as a ground handling trainer ?

Totally agree with you Bruce. I stated the same about Concorde’s and hangars some time ago.
As you are in the business of aviation restoration would it be possible to replace or strengthen internal components in order to maintain the external appearance? For example could undercarriage or wing connection points be spliced together with standard construction grade steel beams. I know that great care would have to be taken not to add extra weight and the need to isolate different steel and alloy parts to avoid bi-metalic corrosion. Its just a thought. Many aircraft are displayed on poles and some of those must have had a weight reduction / strenghtening process.
You mention the Swift that is slowly rusting away and consider that a full restoration would be very costly. Would the next best solution to be to use the wings and undercarrige to complete the NEAM aircraft?

It would indeed be very appropriate for Lyneham’s Comet to go to Hatfield and be housed in the fight test hangar that remains on the site of the former airfield. Unfortunately the land around is to valuable to be used as a museum, I would assume that houses or supermarkets are going to be built. Once the houses are sold the new residents will object to anything that may mean other people visiting their street to see ‘a smelly old airplane’ and will soon have a petition for scraping the aircraft and turning the hangar into a swanky wine bar.
I think that the Mosquito museum had plans to move to Hatfield, and use the extra space to expand their collection and they would have been happy to obtain the Trident that was scrapped there several years ago, all this came to nothing when the local authority allowed to the airfield to be closed and used for building. The County has lost not only part of the nations history but also a very valuable amenity.

Sadly it sounds like the another Comet is heading for the chop. If the Comet is to be replaced by a C-130 then maybe another home can be found for it. Any suggestions ?
Last year Air Atlantique donated a C-47 Lyneham so perhaps the Comet could be offered to Air Atlantique and join their small collection at Coventry.
