This was a formation that I mistakenly took for granted and so I didn’t bother making a note of the date – would be nice if someone could tell me when it was. 😉
The date was 28 May 1989..first pass by the Comet/Mosquito formation…
some of those picies of RR 299, in flight, look very familiar?????
All my own guvnor – some from Classic Fighters 1993….will we ever see this formation again, I hope so, but suspect not.
Yes, I know its not all in, but it was so bloody close!…RR299 at the Shuttleworth Pageant 1995….was I alone at getting concerned at just how energetically it was displayed in its later years?
unforgiveabled (if that is a word)
No its not a word! Far better read the original report at http://www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_avsafety/documents/page/dft_avsafety_032608.hcsp incuding some slightly barbed comments about Ryanair’s taxying speeds.
To quote a post on pprune (from, incidentally, one of THE very best Training Captains I have ever come across) “Commiserations to the ATCO – anyone who has never made a mistake has never made anything”
Nuff said..(that’s not a real word either)

Great pictures! In the third one there is a BAC 1-11 behind the Viscount. Looks familiar but I can’t think of what it is. Can anyone tell me? BMA?
Not BMA, but BUA….and looking closely at the original slide, its actually the nattily named Caledonian/BUA ie post merger, but before being renamed BCAL. BUA/BCAL operated a GLA-NCL-AMS service for years.
And finally, a pic of the origins of Gill.

Some more from the mists of time….best military visitors in the 70s were the Belgian Air Force C-119s, that came in, usually about six at a time, presumably bringing troops in to the Otterburn training area – never got a shot of them, so a Pembroke will have to do.

And a few 70s turboprops…

The end of Northeast – they were formerly BKS, became part of the British Air Services group (including Cambrian), and eventually rolled up into the ‘new’ British Airways (along with BEA & BOAC)

Some early 1970s visitors, and one unintentional resident – the Dan Air Comet G-APDL, did a wheels up landing during crew training and was eventually scrapped.
