The nameplate is a nice nod to the nameplate style of the Southern Railway Bulleid BoB class Pacifics.

What a great noise that engine makes. It’s a Storch..the aircraft I saw when I visited FoF…unfortunately. Seen lots of Storches fly, and would’ve loved to see some of his other stuff airborne..but there yer go! It is an amazing collection, well worth a visit if you can.

Wow. I AM impressed. That’s up in Victoria Cross territory for bravery. I hope that crew was appropriately decorated.

Remarkable. Do any USAAF experts know the story behind this? To my inexpert eye this looks like an explosion which occurred inside the aircraft and stripped the wing panels..the outwardly bent metal on the fuselage near the end of the clip suggests that?
If it flew back from a mission like that..I’m impressed!

Hot shots indeed.. particularly like the Typhoons. From the tank bank?

Those high voltage lines look alarmingly close to the airfield!
    Nice pictures though.

Sad news indeed, a real character without doubt. I always liked his style of drawing, and hope the Guild of Aviation Artists will pay him some form of tribute at their next exhibition.

The Derwent Dam seen a few weeks ago…huge respect to to the crews who flew down those
twisting valleys at low level in Lancs….never forgotten.

“The UK Government has indicated that airspace restrictions will be placed around all Games venues. The major restrictions will be centred on London and the Olympic Park and will run from 14 July 2012 to 15 August 2012. A smaller set of airspace restrictions will then be put in place for the London 2012 Paralympic Games from 16 August 2012 to 12 September 2012.”

    http://olympics.airspacesafety.com/

There will be a large area of restricted airspace centered on London in which any flying will be strictly controlled and must be pre-authorised. The Typhoons will be acting as QRA aircraft and will not be flying standing patrols. I imagine they’ll return to Northolt to get settled in a week or two before 14/7.

Well, they were only at Northolt for 5 days to practise procedures, so not armed to the teeth!
The excavations seen on the grass in the cockpit shot are for installation of a concrete blast wall..to deal with any accidental missile firing, I was reliably informed by the Officer I/C of the detachment.
