Neil Moffet’s Gannet AEW3 flew at Mildenhall in 1988….just checked the negative collection.
Love to hear a Double Mamba again. I went to sleep to the sound of Gannets night flying at Culdrose in the late 50s/early 60s. Last one I heard was the AEW3 that displayed at Mildenhall in 1988…Neil Moffat’s I think. Hope it makes it to UK and appears on the circuit……Fly Navy at Old Warden? Perfect.
I’m well acquainted with Specsavers thanks…;-)
Caught at Old Warden in October 1976 flown by the man himself…as G-AVOR.

James Brown, you are a star. What a perfect outcome. She looked great last Sunday.
That is a Frank Wootton sky in the background of the video. Stirring stuff.

RIP and thoughts for relatives and survivors.
More applause for OW, a wonderful programme of flying unique aircraft. Gene DeMarco gave a spirited display in the beautiful Snipe…unfortunately I ran out of ASA to record it in the darkening sky. Whoever books the aircraft…keep it up, it’s vintage Shuttleworth.
So if M. Chabbert was to be replaced, who would you like in his place? The inimitable John Blake is no longer with us, so who do you all suggest. My only preference would the cool and unflappable tones of Roger Hoeffling, late of the parishes of Mildenhall and Old Warden. The B Chabbert stream of conciousness wiz a French accent doesn’t bother me as much as some, but name names please.
And thanks to all at Duxford for a very enjoyable Saturday.
Was it Jonathan Whaley flying the Hunter? Good, interesting piece though.
What a vintage Old Warden day. Straight through the gate at 10.10am, easy parking, great weather, except for the gusting wind which kept the WW1s/Edwardians grounded…but a spine tingling Vulcan display. Enormous respect and thanks to Martin Withers for playing to the strengths of the airfield layout…a topside pass round the bend….awesome. In 40 years of attending OW, one of the best individual aircraft displays ever. And the Blenheim and Seafire to cap it…wow.
I agree, the Scout display was beautifully presented and fascinating, can’t wait for the first flight.
Thank you Shuttleworth, for a grand day out.
He looks to be in fine form. I recommend his books Gun Button to Fire, and Onward to Malta as excellent insights into squadron life in the Battle of Britain, and the hard fight for Malta respectively.
A remarkable man….he virtually invented trainspotting as a hobby with his ABC books of the regions, and went on to diversify into all sorts of things…aviation publishing, organised trips, railway preservation, property, and even garage businesses.
Truly someone who brightened many of our young lives.
RIP Ian Allan. I’ll underline that!
Hmmm. Better set out early on Sunday then. Looks likes traffic problems for folks who don’t check the interweb before setting out….thank heavens for SVAS membership.
Sad news. He gave a very enjoyable talk at a camera club meeting I attended in the Chilterns some years ago, he was a very successful commercial artist if I recall. His aviation art is just beautiful. A great loss.
