Dubya i dont think that missile load is anywhere near its maximum of over 7000kg…

Hopefully the images wont disappear now…
Yep…A/B models…. 20yrs in service

Ok time for some aussie pics maybe ??

The black 2seater jet is a T-33, and more then likely a CT-33 (an ex Canadian airforce trainer). They were built in the later 1950s.
The big radial engine fighter is a Seafury.
Yup… your not seeing things… looks like a GSH-23 twin barrel instal to me….
Oh come now Dubya…. you dont agree with lil Johnny (aka Mini Me) and his sucking up?? Im shocked…. lol
The picture of the F-16 pre-production model in post 477 with the dual shrike missles on one pylon…… was that a “wild weasel” prototype? The aircraft is carrying wing-tip ESM/ECM (?) pods…
The main attraction for me is that when a wheel falls off a F35 and the fleet is grounded, we still have something flying.
😀 😀 😀 hehehe….
Sigh.. it was a good idea though…
The Super Hornet always entered my mind as halfway affordable (though not a direct 111 replacement) and a single squadron would be a suitable alternative to having a single hole/ single seater F-35. Somehow the idea of single engine ops across the vastness of Australia and the ocean does not appeal to me… or im sure to RAAF pilots.
At least if not anything there would be similiarities with the older Hornets we have and make everyone feel all warm and fuzzy at flying/ working on something relativly familier. At cheaper then buying 100 overpriced F-35s…..
Um.. i think the avionics upgrades on the 111 surpasses the Tornado…. plus remember its at least 20yrs old.
24 aircraft would replace it one for one.. plus a few spares… but it wont happen… they are hell bent on replacing the whole fleet with just one type.
The time frame for retirement keeps changing as it appears to be a juggling act as to when its replacement (?) the F-35 (which really isnt a replacement in terms of capabilities) finally arrives. 100 airframes are the number which keep popping up, which means we will have but one fighter type doing everything.
In the meantime we arm our old slow Orions with stand-off missles??? lol….Sorry it took me ages to realise it was an april fools joke when i read it a few yrs ago….. or was it???
In answer to Rocky… an airframe can be kept flying for ever… but you then cant afford to keep throwing the money at it to keep it going. No real set date is given as to its retirement..though 2008 seems likely.
And yea Scooter for the RAAF to run with one airframe for its entire fleet (F-35) is pretty shortsighted… what if something is found wrong with it in the coming years and the fleet is grounded?
Even if a direct replacement for the 111 cant be found surely its wise to have 2 different types of aircraft.. even if the Super Hornet were for instance selected (good or bad) it would be better then having all ones eggs in one basket.
By the time the big wing FB-22 gets off the ground… if it ever does…. we will no doubt need to replace the F-35 fleet anyhow !
Though one must look back as to what “deal” was made when we first “ordered” the F-35. The F-35 was not even in the short list (nor had it been offered to the RAAF at the time) when suddenly the whole tender process was cancelled and the F-35 magically appeared as our replacement aircraft. Plus the $100Million non-refundable deposit…..
Yea Tiddles i know…… but i do have a soft spot for the old piglet. Poor old Carlo indeed.. lol
Trouble is nothing around these days is able to replace its role… (something new i mean.. not some old F-15s) unless we look towards a certain Sukoi product..but not in this lifetime.
Rumours abound that it was a maintenance fault and someone simply forget to lock-wire/splitpin the wheel retaining nut.
Something which the media didnt show was where the wheel ended up!… in some poor blokes car parked on the base.. ouch. Now if only it was the base commanders car..now that would be funny…!
As Danrh siad…. not this again….
Grounding of a fleet does not mean its getting replaced… grounding means they dont fly until an answer for the reason as to why a wheel fell off is found.
It is a safety measure and not nescessarily means the aircraft has a problem. The problem could very wheel mean improper maintenance procedures, which means the fleet needs to be inspected in case the same mistake has not been done on the other aircraft. ITS A WHEEL people…. not a wing!
Yes the aircraft are old…. i dont see anyone on here saying why the USAF is wasting money on 50 YEAR OLD B52s???? And why they shouldnt waste money re-engining them with high by-pass engines in some sort of Dale Brown make over….

Found this one.. its in Russian… but what the heck…. its well worth watching… and some old footage is included

Still its a living!
