A very rare aeroplane and very sad news, but as said above it’s good to know the pilot’s ok.
322 is base out of Exeter see http://www.hunterflyingclub.co.uk for more info
Yep good to see FGA.9 XE601 back in the air, and nice to see a single seater too! 😉
Fantastic stuff, that answers both questions nicely, thanks! It would seem that 60 Sqn’s markings have differed quite wildly over the years.
I also understand that J-1626 was built as a recce machine for the Swiss AF.
Thanks guys, I understand the L-39 was at Legends to support the French Spit and Corsair, though I would have thought something a little larger may be more useful! 😀
I’ve just been on the RAF website and looked under 60 Sqn. They do have a profile of a Vampire in 60 Sqn markings, but it looks very similar to the 43 Sqn checker board, rather than a lightning bolt. The Hunter sounds a promising lead though. 😉
Guys,
can we stop with the racist comments please making me uneasy. I feel that the Emergency services have responded well to the situation. and thoughts are with them aswell.
Looks like those emergency exercises have really paid off. Hopefully the impact will be lessened by their presence, today will be difficult day for them too.

Ladies and gentlemen, can we please keep this thread away from discussions of who might be behind this attack, making accusations etc – there will be a time and a place for that. For now, can we please just think of those who have lost their lives and those who are injured, and keep the many people stranded in London in our thoughts.
Thank you.
A point I’ve just made too. 😉

This is horribly reminicient of the 1980’s and early 90’s, but I suppose it was only a matter of time before the nonsense started here, and every twisted Islamic group will be claiming responsibility.
Mr Mainer, it may interest you to know that the vast majority of Muslims are against these people too, maybe you should visit the BBC website, hell you may even learn something about the world you live in!
Anyway this is not a time for political debate, people have died and many others are injured, Stewart I’m very happy that your father is ok mate. 😉

Tim
Keep your head down mate.
Best wishes to all affected
To those who purpotrated this…… So!! Is that the best you can do?
It’ll take a lot more than that to affect Britain. You may as well give up now.
It’s not the best they can do, and that’s the worrying thing.
You can bet your life that the Tokyo underground attack of a few years ago won’t have gone un-noticed by these sub-humans, it’s only a matter of time and frighteningly easy to achieve.
My thoughts are with all involved in this nightmare.

Legends is the highlight of the airshow year for me, and I feel there’s always a bit of an anti-climax after Legends. It’s difficult to say something that’s not already been said, but as Russ rightly pointed out, where else in the UK would you ever see such a gathering of historic aircraft? Granted it’s expensive, but much of that is the post 9/11 insurance price hike.
It’s easy to take it all for granted nowadays, but I was speaking to a guy at the DX VE Day show, and he remembers a time when the UK warbird scene was little more than three Spitfires, and private Hurricanes were a pipe dream, now we have five privately owned Hurri’s!
Please don’t take these things for granted, the powers that be are hell bent on destroying the UK airshow scene, this could well be one of the last Legends shows. After all, those of us that went to the 2001 Mildenhall air fete didn’t consider the possibility that we were attending the very last one did we? 🙁
