I’m considering a purchase of the deHavilland Dash 8-300. But I’m not sure I would do it because my computer isn’t of the strongest. These are my specifications:
P 4 1.6 Ghz
256 MB RAM
40 GB, 10 free
nVidia MX400 64MBTheir website says 800 Mhz. This is, of course, highly exagerated, so with the double of that it should run well?
What do you think? Ohyeah, and their website says it’s for FS2002, will it run in FSF2004?
Your computer is plenty good, but you should really have more RAM, 512 mb is really a minimum for todays games. There is really no need to buy the latest processors when you can eliminate processor time bottlenecks with more RAM or even a sound card.
Are specifac sims designed to allow the game to simutaneously display 2 or more views? That would seem very taxing on the game engine like LOMAC that works hard enough to show one view. And if you were to run it on two seperate machines, I would think you would need some kind of network connection to sinchronize the screen action. I want to mention I can play LOMAC no problem with my Athlon 1.6 ghz and ATI 9000 128 mb with only a little frame stutter at really busy moments, so I dont think you go out and get an Athlon 64 with a x800 XT just to run this game.
adwwebber- Where do you download plane ad-ons for LOMAC?
Have you ever noticed that if you were to remove the top wing, the Pitts would look just like a mini-Spitfire?
Ok someone explain to me , this utter disgust, with the Newer Hornet 😀

the DS looks interesting with its two screens but i am not sure how they are going to take advantage it. i can only see the second screen used for inventory and character status.
I think its a pretty good idea myself. There are alot of PC games that have really big HUDS that take up alot of screen area and detract from the view of the game. I often would like to have all that info on a seperate screen.
I want to mention a couple of more things about BF42 and its mods. Be sure and configure a joystick to fly the planes because its a pain using the keyboard/mouse combo. You have to reassign the keys to the joystick movement manually. You can turn up the keyboard and mouse sensativity all the way up and it will only affect the flying. Be sure and try the BF42 mod Galactic Conquest. Its a starwars game that blows away anything done by the Lucas Arts series (there is no singleplayer for this mod, but its easy to find games at Gamespy). There are only 2 maps for Battlefield 1918, look for the iron cross next to the maps that are modded. And here is the official site for that mod where you can find servers for muliplayer. Its in German, but you can Bablefish it.

The browser you use can make a big difference also. I use Mozilla’s Firefox which is a free download, and I absolutley never have popups, and my ad-aware doesnt turn up hardly anything anymore.

hey mixtec, what kind of rig are you running? ATI 9800?
I got an Athlon 1800+ 1.6 ghz, 1 gig of RAM, ATI 9000 128 mb. Im really happy with it, it can handle any game I want to play, and see no need to upgrade anytime soon. I did splurge on a pretty high end mobo, the Asus A7N8X-E, and that seems to have made quite an improvement with graphics performance. I am thinking of buying an ATI X800 Pro a few months down the road so I can up the res on games from my current 1024 x 768 to 1280 x 1024 or even 1600 x 1200. The X800 Pro is more powerful than the 9800 XT and costs less.
I honestly think they are having second thoughts about having user appointed moderators considering that a couple that were voted for have questionable online behavior that would undermine the responcibility of the job. Or they at least are having doubts about just how much authority to give the mods to clean up bad posts. I believe there is a danger to forum censurship, and it has ruined many good forums/newsgroups because there is a lot of grey area in what is considered inappropriate. I think the solution is to give the mods ignore powers and not delete powers. If youve ever put anyone on ignore in this forum (Ive actually had one of the elected mods on ignore before), youll notice that that person is not completely iliminated, but you can still see their posts, and their posts have a button you can click if your curious to see what they have posted on a certain thread. I think that would be the perfect way of cleaning up the garbage without censuring.
I believe those screenshots come from that combat simulator you mentioned in the other tread. It does look very good to me. Thanks for those images mixtec.

For anyone who wants to try these mods, you can download them here free:
http://bfmods.myexp.de/?d=0&page=download
They install automatically, you dont have worry about putting them in the right folder.
You first have to download the 1.6 patch for BF42 for the mods to run. You can download that at the official BF42 site:
http://www.eagames.com/official/battlefield/1942/us/gamedemo.jsp?state=010010
So once youve installed the patch, then installed the mod, you start up BF42 and click on the custom games button. Then you select the mod, and click the activate button. Then you can click single player or mulitplayer to start the game. Some mods dont have single player, so you can only play them online.
Not forgetting the Sheds at Cardington. How many airship sheds are there left? I know there’s at least one in the States, there were one or two in India…
Cheers
I believe El Toro Marine Base in Southern California has 2. Helicoptor pilots can fly right in. 😀

I have to agree with you most of your posts are complete rubbish. Have you ever considered turning off the computer and giving yourself and the rest of us a break. If you can’t find the off-switch, just pull out the plug.Regards
Sauron
Can you imagine if one day Flood wakes up in the morning and says “why do I keep posting at that AFM forum all the time, I must be nuts”. And then what kind of moderator are we left with??? Lesson to be learned: Dont confuse obsesiveness with dedication.
Its possible to delete a thread by going into edit if you make 2 by mistake.
G-Max is the free version of 3DstudioMax. The good thing about that is its very full featured, not dumbed down because its basically an older version of 3DstudioMax with the resolution turned down so it cant be used professionally. Maya is also a popular 3D program used professionally. How easy it is to learn depends on the person. There are people I know who have taught themselves to be professional 3D artists just by reading how to books. Most likely youll have to take a class to get up and running. There are tons of tutorials on the net for these programs. I recommend you visit this site as it tells you alot about how to get started in all phases of video game design: http://www.dperry.com Professional 3D programs cost on average about $5000 dollars, but there are plenty of free 3D programs out there that pretty much can do the same thing.
