In todays conservative news, not much seems to be said about the economic or living conditions in Iraq. We just keep hearing reports about military operations against “rebellious factions”. Ive also heard brief mention that the US is not going to allow Germany, France or Russia to do bussiness in Iraq.

No. Germany and France can work as sub contractors. Part of the deal for Russia forgiving debt is they are now going to do some oil equipment installs and other things.

Subcontracters mean they cant do anything till the US starts doing something, lets be clear on that.

Honestly, it doesnt look as though the US is allowing anyone to do bussiness in Iraq, they seem determined to make Iraq totally subjegated before allowing any meaningful economic recovery to take place.

Lets see, since you mentioned “conservative press” ( over here CNN, NBC, ABC, NPR are NOT conservative and they are the majority here… Now explain to me the defeatist press who are some of those and the BBC and the Guardian, some German media and some French media who almost refuse to mention ANY progress there. I would like to see that explained. Then there are the people like you who want a magic wand waved and/or have a short attention span. This stuff takes time.

To me a conservative press is one that only covers “war news” without asking any question as to what the purpose of this war is for, or who its being fought against. And they seem to ignore anything about Iraqi life itself or its desire to develope a new country.

I believe if the US allowed nations to go in freely to do bussiness in Iraq, Iraq would quickly become a prosperous and independant nation. I think its about time the Iraqi people stand up for their rights to determine their future. Was in the intention of the US simply to remove Sadam and WMD or is their something more that the US expects with their occupation? I think its about time people stand up and ask these questions.

Interesting opinions. Explain exactly how all this is going to happen “quickly”. I am really curious. Tell me exactly what has France done to earn any place in rebuilding Iraq?

It could happen very quickly if international corperations were simply allowed to enter freely. Im sure the Iraqis would warmly welcome world bussinesses entering and competing to do bussiness. But no, the US wont allow this. The fact that the US is holding back Iraq from doing bussiness is creating discontent which means that there will be continued fighting and dying, the result being the US can say they are not “ready” yet.

I agree the Iraq invasion could have been a success story for everyone involved. The americans/british succeeded in proving the nay sayers wrong and were more or less welcomed. The Iraqis could have enjoyed a fresh new start. But instead the US just wants to hold Iraq back and destroy their own success. Vortex- You say exporting oil above prewar levels in a success, Ill remind you that Iraq had sactions against it before the war, so I dont see how that is anything big. Find Sadam is indeed a success, but that isnt an excuse to keep the Iraq economy down.

My point is they should have ended up fine along time ago, there is no reason for them to be going through this period of limbo simply for the US to be controling the country like they are. And the fact is no countrys are really being allowed to go in and do trade, not even the countrys that were part of the war effort. I dont know how to describe the US attitude other than to say they are a control freak.
