Can someone tell me what to look out for when buying on ebay. I havent found any web pages on the internet telling you how to use ebay, strange, as it does seem complicated. Is it true that customer feedback ratings are important to check when buying from someone?

What strikes me as strange is noone here who likes to stare at planes is involved in sport aviation(allmost noone with a few excptions). If I had the finances, Id be making my aviation facination a reality by owning and flying my own aircraft. Whats also strange is absolutely noone who visits AFM is an airforce pilot. Kind of strange when you think of the thousands of military pilots throughout the world.

Since real fighter pilots train on flight simulators, I think some of the combat technics learned on sims are very realistic. Im wondering if some of the flight sim aces here can share some of their experience. I personally have found it very difficult to hit enemy at anything but up close and I find I have to toggle between outside zoom past views and cockpit views to be aware of whats going on around me. I also remove the cockpit at times for full screen forward views as you can hardly see anything in WW2 sims like CFS2 or Il-2. Do pilots here make much use of padlock views? How about using snap-look views when in a dogfight? I always seem to pass an enemy Im chasing right as Ive pulled up into firing position with too much speed. Does anyone here chop the throtal or use barrel rolls or other special manuevers to set up into firing postion? What kind of realism settings do most use here? Dont you need to have rudder pedals when using highly realistic flight handling settings? If you were to take on six enemy with the highest experience settings, how long would it take you to shoot down all of them? I personally like WW2 fighter sims over jet sims as the jets are just a little too “plush” and seem to catch and hit targets a little too easily.

A couple of times before on this forum, the idea has been discussed of a flight sim stratagy game where not only is online aircombat fought, but missions are waged on an overall real time war map between warring countrys. I think the game Aces High fits that bill perfectly and is an awfully good flight sim for a free 35mb download. Unfortunately they charge $14.95 a month (a MONTH not a year) to play on the overall online stratagy game. Maybe someone here who is playing on this game could describe the combat enviornment as Im deffinately not going to shoot $14.95 a month on any game.

Simmer- Could you give a review of Il-2 forgotten battles now that youve tried it?

Forget about building your own ultralight. It takes quite a bit of engineering expertise to know how to make a aluminum tubing airframe that will stay under the 200 lb margin. Most kit planes nowadays are composites, lancair a popular example http://www.lancair.com/ . These kits are still relatively expensive and cant take up to a year of your free time. So its not a quick term solution to a desire to fly.

In the US, spin training was stopped because more people were dying training to do spins than those dying from accidentaly entered spins. I agree thats not a good reason to stop spin training, but you have to remember most private planes simply dont spin well. There designed to be fast and efficient which means aerdynamically there just not suited for abrupt slow manuevers.

Comet- Take simmers advice and get a video card. I fried my processor playing pc games with on board video memory. The graphics are awful at low resolution, you cant appreciate good flight sims unless your at least at 1024×768. Check out my thread “whats new in combat pc games”, there are some links there for FS2002, you might want to import some new aircraft as they dont give you much of a selection in FS2002. Some tips I would give you are to put the sim on low realistic settings so you spend more time flying than crashing. And the city landscapes are surprisngly detailed and accurate, its almost like your getting an aerial tour of all the major citys of the world. When you press f4, you get differnt flying views, theres one where your outside looking at the plane from a distance which is really fun for the aerobatic plane, so you can really see how it manuveurs.

A million quid is dirt cheap for such an aircraft. The engine probably cost more than the airframe. Airfroces should take a serious look at this jet.

It really depends on what you classify as an “aircraft”. Almost anyone could build something that would get off the ground with a 2-stroke engine and cheap materials like plywood or fiberglass. But if your talking about something that will handle a lycoming flat six, right off the bat your talking an airframe that will weigh at least a ton. This kind of weight requires extensive engineering knowledge whether your using stressed skin metal or composites. You could get away with using welded steel tubing on the rear fuselage, not on the wings. If you seriously want to design your own plane, go to russia and high an engineer there to design you something.

Im thinking of going with a dual boot XP/win98 myself as I want to be sure to be able to play older games. This is an instruction for this dual boot setup that frankvw gave me via email:

    “What to do then?
Easy: install W98 in c:WIN98. Then put the XP CD in it, and install it in
    C:Windows (In this order)”

Hey Frank, where do I put linux as Im thinking of doing a tripple boot setup?

After doing 4 reistalls my computer I still have problems like you mention, warning messages, comp going into safe mode, its very fustrating. Be sure and get an optical mouse if your going to do sensitive sniper work, it makes a huge difference over a ball mouse.

High wing does have some major aerodynamic advantages over low wing. High wing can get by without dyhedral which improves handling and air loss at wing tips a bit. High wings spin better, the schwiezer 2-33 sailplane trainer is a high wing which is almost spin proof. Sidesliping is less of a problem on high wings also.
