    RE: Artillery

About 6 months ago a new self propelled arty system was axed by the US (cant remember name). A real dumb move as I dont think the US can rely on air superiority all the time, and this is a very cost effective expenditure. The rate of fire is increased on this gun because its autoloaded.
Garry- Did you ever find anything on that rapid fire arty I mentioned to you a while back that fires 3 round bursts?

    RE: Eastenders

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-02-03 AT 05:50 PM (GMT)]Ill admit I got addicted to Blake7 although I think they intentionally went out of their way to make the effects and costumes corny looking. Ive often wondered what it would be like if you were to use the scripts and actors in Blake7 with the special effects of US sci-fi like startrek/babalon5.

Arthur- How can you say Dr Who is better than Blake7 ? Dr Who is just psycho with guys running around shooting people with their fingers, totally absurd. And you dont like Space1999? That was probably the most realistic, high quality sci-fi show ever made, that to this day is better than the modern startrek shows. It was done by the british husband/wife team the Andersons who also did the tv series UFO and the puppet animation sci-fi the Thunderbirds. UFO was also outstanding and a very definate equal to todays sci-fis.

    RE: Are you crazy?

There are 3 basic reasons you are likely to be hacked:

    1) Personal info- Now that bussinesses are exersiszing better computer securtiy, hackers are more and more breaking into peoples personal PCs in search of credit card numbers and other info to steal. You should not store any valuable information on you PC.

    2) Launch attacks- Hackers use other peoples computers to remotely attack other computers and store ilicit info. This is more likely if you have a fast, always on connection and a fast computer. High CPU activity at slow periods or strange unknown files on your computer are tip offs.

    3) Vandalism- Though the chances are low, it is possible you could be randomly picked by a hacker to screw up your system. In my case I wouldnt care as Ive had to do about 4 harddrive formats and reinstalls in the last 2 months too my malfunctioning computer.

    RE: Artillery

Its true arty hasnt improved much at all unless you call base bleed ammo a huge step forward. The question of rockets vs arty is a reliable one, rockets were used extensively by the russians in WW2. I personally think in a combat area with wide open terain, longrange will win the day, and armored self propelled arty will be neccesary part of any armored unit in that situation.

    RE: SS Enterprise……………

Speaking of cool space craft, there was a cheap movie in the late 70s called “Buck Rogers in the 25th century, that later became a cheap US tv show. They had the best looking fighters which I wish would be used in a PC game. Speaking of which, Ive been playing Unreal II, great game but uneffective weapons against aliens make it fustrating. I wish they would make an expantion where you could make it with first officer Aida.

    RE: Forum upgrade

Is the new forum going to be like the last new forum with the crappy graphics and cool features that would take forever to learn how to use?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-02-03 AT 05:05 PM (GMT)]munnst- Im by know means expert on the subjuct of computers, but much of what youve said is plain wrong and should be cleared up.

Okay so you’ve telnet to an active port on a PC, err, then wot? Send me a UDP, TCP packet maybe or a little html? That’s not exactly what I would call gained access.
If it was easy to connect to a port on a PC and gain access to it why write virus’s???

Once a hacker gains access to your comp (on a server this means getting root access) he can do anything he wants including using your computer to launch attacks on other computers so as not to be traced. Remote hacker programs like backoriface gives the hacker more control over your computer than you have with a windows OS.

Just connect to all those vunerable PC’s and insert your virus.

The idea of a virus/worms is that its automated, they just go out on their own to do (most often) destructive work, whereas in hacking, the hacker wants direct control of your computer.

The very fact that people need a medium to transfer that virus i.e. email and the fact that the virus has to be activated i.e. double clicked indicates that it isn’t as easy as you think to gain access.

You probably havent heard of the nimda virus than, it doesnt reguire the recipient to click anything. The reason their arent very many powerful viruses like that is because theyre difficult to write. Famous viruses like Melissa and I Love You never could really carry out instructions they were meant to because its very complex to do this.
