    id like to make onr thing crystal clear… my post was a jovial poke at Top Gun vs ‘The Few’ (In the spirit of ‘Hot Shots! great film!) if i was out to make a serious statement against the USA it wouldn’t be done on a forum. I thought the thread was being a bit light hearted but obviously my comments pulled some strings…i am sorry if this has offended you or anyone else. i don’t hate or dislike any country because all a country is, is a collection of people divided by a line on a map. I cant see how i can ‘Hate’ Americans when ive probably only met half a dozen people who happen to be from America. To say you hate a country is a bit of a sweeping statement.

    As for the film yes i will wait and see but current track record (Pearl Harbor) perhaps doesn’t inspire the purists with confidence… anywho id rather they make something than nothing!

    Anyway have any of you guys over the pond seen a ‘Beagle 2’ space prob that us limies have misplaced, just wondering if youve seen it on your travels…;)

    No harvards!!!

    Little Gransden 2003, Superb 2 ship ‘Harvard’ display (please forgive me not totally up on Mk’s/versions etc)

    I particularly loved the ‘Fools Rush In’ nose art, now thats one for your Jacket!!!:D

    Little Gransden was a real highlight for me this year, id recommend the smaller airshow/fly-in’s anyday. Rougham was also superb too.

    …Dez lobs teddy….

    Daz, i can handle the actual Pearl Harbor attack sequence where theres 30mins of action and little acting but the minute that t**s pot ‘Afleck’ gets in his P40… well thats when my attention switches to the ‘Von Trap family singers’ 😀

    Flat 12×2 that forum link you provided (Thank You) was hilarious!!!

    Tom Cruise as we know will play Fiske whos call sign is MAVERICK he has a co pilot called GOOSE. they will form part of the ‘American Secret Squadron’ (ASS) and fly F4u Corsairs (Special 2 seat ones!) Cant wait
    😉

    Totally agree with you Trumper… This is one film i don’t think im looking forward to seeing…i do hope im wrong! As for the Film companies who undertake rubbish like Pearl Harbor and U571? well what can you say… Give me Christopher Plummer, Michael Caine any day that film (BofB) 30 years on is still better than any Pearl Harbor…The americans have been trying for 30 years to better it and they can keep on trying thats after they better Dark Blue World… a film with real emotion.

    I hate the Pearl Harbor film, id rather watch The Sound of Music!

    Rant over…

    😉

    Ashley!

    Couldn’t disagree more about Duxfords catering, prices are getting close to what you pay at a motorway service station and the food aint much better! I don’t mind paying good money if the food is of a decent quality. I do agree tho that i don’t go there for the food!!! 🙂

    I always felt that a bigger restaurant could have been made out of the original coffee shop with a viewing area which could be open to the general public i.e. after the museum closed. The sort of restaurant/pub you would go to for an evening meal. period of course!

    Airshow Pilot Memorial?

    Been going to airshows since 96 and saw Black 6 ‘Land’ then the Kingcobra at Biggin then the Firefly last year. Words can’t describe the feeling…

    A few people have mentioned the idea of a ‘Memorial’ to some of the pilots lost.. im not sure this is such a good thing?

    For me i see every airshow i attend as a way of remembering, the same way you might pause for reflection to remember the wartime pilots and crew i often think of our display pilots…

    Everytime i see a Warbird restored this is a way of rememberibg…

    Im not sure that if i was a display pilot id want to walk past a memorial before im about to take to the sky? maybe?

    Quiet often i use poems to reflect thoughts my favourite is below, it was e mailed to me by a friend and im not sure who it is by? so i apologize now…

    Flight is freedom in its purest form,
    to dance with the clouds which follow a storm;
    to roll and glide, to wheel and spin;
    To feel the joy that swells within;
    To leave the earth with its troubles and fly,
    And know the warmth of a clear spring sky;
    Then back to earth at the end of the day,
    released from the tensions which melted away.
    Should my end come while I am in flight,
    Whether brightest day or darkest night; ,
    Spare me your pity and shrug off the pain, –
    Secure in the knowledge that I’d do it again;
    For each of us is created to die,
    And within me I know I was born to fly.

    I agree Ant,

    If you look at DX’s Airspace plans it has one set of doors , behind those will be the ‘restoration’ section, then behind that is the airspace display… Once those airframes go in there for display i doubt very much we will see them in the open air ever again…:(

    It seems to me that architects have this skill of designing buildings with minimal input from the people who use them…:mad:

    Whacking Great Hangers Please!

    Totally with you on this one ant!

    However i do feel that Hatton has hit the nail on the Head.

    These buildings need to be ‘Trendy etc etc’ to attract the funding.

    I visited milestones at Hendon recently (Bloody silly name!) and whilst the milestones ‘Hanger’ was packed, The Graeme Wight hanger had four people in it, one of which was a security guard!

    Our larger aviation museums need to entertain the ‘Playstation’ generation and parked aeroplanes in a hanger probably doesn’t achieve this, after all the likes of IWM and RAFM are competeing for the ‘Family Day out’ market.

    i can just about cope with Hendon hanging aeroplanes up but i think IWM Duxford have made a BIG error with ‘Airspace’ and ‘AAM’ they have ‘locked away’ all there airframes by hanging them. At the 60th Dambusters comemoration at last years Duxford May air display a friend suggested that Duxfords Lanc be placed on the FLightline next to BBMF’s Where else would you see two lancs on the flightline??? Anyway Duxford have/will really restrict there flexibility to use exhibits to promote airshows!

    They may as well be 20miles down the road…

    I’d be quite happy to join in fortunatly i live a bit nearer!

    I think the checks and induction days are run not only to protect the volunteer but to protect the museum as well, unfortunatly we live in an era of litigation and an organisation like IWM can leave themselves wide open if you or I fell off a ladder or something silly… not saying we would sue but they have to bear these things in mind. part of your DAS subscription goes towards Insurance. I agree life is full of ‘Red tape’ these days which makes something very simple i.e. painting an aeroplane extremely difficult!!!

    😡

    FLOOD, I think a name change was discussed a couple of years ago. Imperial War Museum hate the name, so its more commonly refered to as IWM. i think they were struggeling to come upwith a suitable alternative? … answers on a postcard…;)
