you will find the sp used on the south african airways route jburg-perth very often.it is due to be retired from qantas in the next year as are the 747-238s which will be replaced by the a330 and the 747lr
it has great range the sp from san francisco to sydney nonstop was a regular route flown by qantas and thats a 15hour haul.it was based on the 747-100 and originally designated the 747-100 sp my dad used to fly the 747-200 and 300 and sp for a long time and he says it is a better handling plane than the 400

    RE: Virgin in Star Alliance?

well i dont know to much about virgin and its ownership as i work for emirates so they are of no interest to me but i think vs would be better off in skyteam and they can be a major player in that alliance i would have thought star has enough major airlines as it is

    RE: Virgin in Star Alliance?

if virgin joins the star alliance what routes is it really going to benefit from
with a limited longhaul network it will be competing from heathrow with ana thai sia varig united air canada and now bmi i dont think star needs virgin or any more alliance members virgin would be better with skyteam as the major player in heathrow in the 3rd major allaince

    RE: bmi british midland

i have flown ba virgin and bmi and found them all as good as each other i think ba on a good day is better than virgin and bmi any day but i had the pleasure of flying virgin upper class and that is definately one of the best products out there in business class by far.I see that singapore a/l is now doing business class beds like ba , i will say one thing ba is the most innovaitive airline for inflight service by far

dont know ross gunn and i dont work for baa so i cant take people up tp towers let alone cockpits but i do work as a pilot for emirates that great airline of dubai which when ever you fly next you should try out and guess what you can watch on the video screens take off and landing on the 777 300 cos the plane is so long we have cams on the undercarriage and send it through to the seat back videos its great
