If Airbus knew that they would record a fairly impressive number of orders for the A350 (ie Qatar and Emirates at least), how come the board did not give a green light for the programme to go ahead? What could hold them back??

I’m thinking the internal problems they’re having with naming a replacement for Forgeard at Airbus and the appointment of co-presidents at EADS. Forgeard has been a source of problems as he has declared his wish to remain the head of Airbus while sitting in the co-presidency, something to which the Germans are adamently opposed.
There is a possibility shareholders are pressing for these matters to be resolved before further development is authorized on the A350. Depending on the amount of success seen at LBG by the A350, there is chance the board of directors might release the funds needed to continue the program a lot sooner. But that’s just my opinion! Cheers!

Deepspace, never mind, I actually answered my own question by checking out the links you posted.
While we are on the subject, does anyone know how the IAF did during their time in Canada? Cheers!

Thanks to all who replied and answered the questions I had. It is greatly appreciated!
Deepspace, the pictures you posted, are they of Israel’s recent deployment to Canada for the latest Maple Flag? If so, I wish I lived in Alberta rather than Ontario, I would have gladly driven to Cold Lake to take a few pictures! Anyway, the pics are great and will allow me to keep the book I am writing as accurate as possible. Cheers!

I am surprised to see how many acquisition programs have taken a beating (i.e. the F/A-22 program) and yet, the JSF has managed to avoid the axe from bean counters. With all of the controversy centered around this program, how has it managed to remain safe for so long?

Erez, thanks for the info, much appreciated. However, I do have a couple more questions. You mentioned they use modified 707s as command and control jets, are those based on the Phalcon system are they regular looking aircraft?
Secondly, the upgrade you mentioned in regards to the C-130 fleet, will it be a design locally drawn up or will it be something very similar to what the USAF is presently doing to its C-130s.
Again, thanks a lot for all the held, it is greatly appreciated! Cheers!

MPSRON TWO is usually on a 24 hour alert, their ships run between 17 and 24 knots, given an unopposed entry it would take them between five and seven days.

Thanks for the info! I thought that was about how long it would take to make the trip but I wasn’t sure. I found a website for this unit but strangely, it was no longer active. Cheers!

It was sensible to ask for silent French assistance (blueprints instead of re-measuring) and I think Iranians did that actually, but yes, Iranian industry is perfectly capable to remanufacture pretty much anything coming out of 70s/80s era.[/QUOTE]

I thought this could have been a possibility but I wasn’t sure. If something like this would have happened, I wonder what kind of deal was made to make the exchange possible.
I am sad seeing the Mirage F1 slowly trickle out of service with the French Air Force. My cousin flew them for about ten years before retiring. He said he had a great time flying them. I was very jealous to say the least!

Since the IRIAF continued to operate these few Mirage F1s, I come to wonder where they had their pilots trained. I see a couple of optiosn they could have pursued.
1.They could have convinced Iraqi pilots to remain in Iran and help Iranian pilots make the transition to the Mirage F1.
2.Could the Iranian government have sent them to Lybia where Khadafi would have welcomed Iranian pilots in his country?
3.The last possibility I can think of would involve Jordan. However, I am unsure if Iran and Jordan even maintain open lines of communications.
Anyway, it is quite amazing to see what Iran has done with the limited outside assistance they have received. I imagine they have reversed engineered the parts they needed to maintain their Mirages operational.

Thanks though, I have always had an afinity for the Mirage 2000. A pair were supposed to have been present at the yearly London International Airfest in London, but the show was cancelled due to some sponsors pulling out recently. Greatly dissapointed! Hopefully next year!
Thanks for pointing out my mistake Camaro, cheers!

What happened to the last twenty-eight Mirage F1s? I don’t remember hearing anything about them during the aftermath of Op Iraqi Freedom? As well, the aircraft which flew to Iran, have they now been absorbed by the Iranian Air Force and if so, where do they get their spareparts?
