This was one of my favorite kitbash projects of all time. I used the ARII 1/144 scale RA-5C Vigilante kit as the basis for what a modernized heavy attack Vigilante might look like. I won first in the scale back about 4 years ago at the North Central Texas IPMS show.

Basically it has the following features:

-Reprofiled nose radome for the terrain-following/attack radar
-More sturdy nose gear to handle the increased gross weight
-LANTIRN pods under each engine intake
-A multitude of ECM/EW antennas all over the airframe
-Paveway III series 2000 lb laser-guided bombs, 2 under each wing
-Light outboard pylon for self-defense Sidewinder missiles
-Chaff/flare launchers on the aft fuselage decking

That indeed is a sweet looking model! Good job! 🙂 Irwan

Brilliant shots Grey! It doesn’t matter how one shoots an A330, it always looks good no matter what!

Tom Cruise is a mighty fine person. I reckon most of the animosity from you guys here is due to the fact that he gets to make babies with Katie Holmes and not you.

Tom Cruise was a fine person until he started attacking anyone who disagreed with his views about scientology and his antics on Oprah certainly didn’t help. Compare him to John Travolta, who is a fervent follower of the church of scientology. When was the last time you heard mister Travolta attack anyone who didn’t follow his beliefs. Never as far as I can remember!
As far as me being jealous of him hooking up with Katie Holmes, good for him put it certainly doesn’t make me jealous of the fact. To top it all off, I don’t think she’s all that attractive when compared to other women out there. She looks indifferent in my eyes!

yes but which is the orange and which is the peanut?

I would say that the peanut is mr Cruise! He will never achieve the same level of myth as Robert deNiro, at least in my opinion!

Those a great shots all around, but the US Airways A333 is the best of the bunch, even if the tug had an engine fart! 🙂

The Clémenceau is too old to kept in service as a viable weapons system. A refit would have cost too much money and considering the fact that the Rafale uses a different launch system than the one used on the old ship, they would have had to gut the old system out and replace it with the appropriate one.
As a training carrier, it would have been pretty useless as French naval aviators are trained by the US Navy in Florida. Transforming the Clémenceau into a training vessel would have been another waste of money which could have been used elsewhere.
Maybe, they could have reffitted her to become an amphibious assault ship similar to the LHD class of ships. But that to would have cost a load of Euros needed for more advanced weapons presently being developed.

Wannabe pilot, these are all incredible shots. The A310 landing is especially nice while the last picture you displayed of the A320 turning for take off with a setting sun are stunning! Great job all around! 🙂

The problem I see is that we allow our opinions to be fueled by what we read in the media, which sometime can be stretches to suit the publication. It is unfortunate I must say!
However, as aviation enthusiast, we should be happy that both Boeing and Airbus are doing as well as they have this year. This means more jets in the air, therefore more photographic opportunities, even if their are close to ten thousand B73x and A32x. The point I am trying to drive here is that the more money they both make, the more money they have to develop new models. In the end, we can only benefit from this as enthusiast. Who cares about who builds the better jet or how many they build in a year or even how many they sell! I don’t care about seeing a 747 or an A340. As far as I am concerned, I see a jet and I will try to watch it fly by until I can’t see it anymore and if I have a camera, I will snap a shot to remember the moment for a long time.
Bottom line, great job on both companies for being aggressive, even if at times, it might have been a little much. Good luck to them both for 2006 and I have to add that I hope the smaller ones will have similar success for the new year!
