I can’t believe you guys would consider Robert deNiro as irritating. If you compare him to that raving lunatic Tom Cruise, you would be comparing oranges and peanuts! deNiro is without a doubt one of the best actors I have ever had the pleasure of watching on the big screen. Maybe the reasons you thought he was a little overbearing in Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers is because his character was supposed to be that way. Watch him in The Untouchables or even Heat, you might actually see the kind of actor he truly is.
On the other hand, Tom Cruise has quickly lost the respect of many of his fans since he had his little break down on the Oprah show! On top of that, his adamment attitude towards Scientology has become a little too much to bare for most!
Then of course, there is Paris Hilton! But then again, I think she bothers just about everyone out there!

My uncle passed away after suffering from a stroke in late November. He not only was my uncle but he was also a father to me and his three sons. He was a great man who made my family laugh with his zany sense of humour. I will miss him greatly. Watching the World Cup won’t be the same!

The High Speed Landing Craft Utility is probably better than a Heavy Lift Landing Craft Air Cushion in terms of affordability and efficiency but I wouldn’t want to loose the enormous flexibility you can get from hovercraft.
When the current LCACs need replacing I’d to see another hovercraft design of similar capability but much more compact so more could be carried per ship. Maybe a folding or collapsible cargo deck could be developed for better storage?
Are you sure this would be cost effective in terms of maintenance? I mean, wouldn’t this mean too many moving parts?
Whoever is resposible for these shots did an incredible job! I can’t believe the quality of these pictures! ๐
Pete, excellent shots all around! Looking forward to more in the future! ๐
I love the Emirates shots! Great work!
Shadow, there already was a plan for new Su-33, at first there would be an upgraded version with better electronics matching the Su-30MKK, the version after that would be equiped with Yakhont/Moskit and other anti-ship missiles. Not sure if they will go through with that, if the carriers are indeed to become smaller, than this aircraft would simply be too large (which is already a problem now).
If that’s the case, that would be too bad as I always thought of the Su-33K as a great fighter! However, seeing how long Mig has been working on their Mig-29K, it is only fair to assume the Russian government would head down that path.
What would the odds be of these fighters being equipped with TVC? And should the Mig-29K be the aircraft of choice for the Russian Navy, how many units would be procured?
To catch such a man is sonething that will require a lot of patience and consistent hard work from US and allied SF. Little by little, Al Qaeda is loosing the fight it began the moment it organized and initiated Sept 11th/01. However, the capture of their leader has been something that has alluded those hunting him since.
In my opinion, I believe that until the day the Americans can be trusted by those in Afghanistan, they on’t be able to get the necessary intel they need to nab this guy! As much as Afghanis have gained freedom and now live under a democracy, albeit a corrupted one, they still see the Americans as people they can’t fully trust because of how things are unravelling in the Middle East. HUMINT is a large part of any combat operations, mostly when you are looking for someone of that caliber. In the mean time, I don’t think that the US can do anything differently than they are now! This isn’t something that’s going to happen overnight. The rumors of Bin Laden’s death, in my opinion, are just that, rumors! Until a body can be produced, we must assume the man is still alive. I know he isn’t getting any younger and he does have supposed health relates issues and there is a possibility that he could be dead. However, this is a man who has remained, again in my opinion, one step ahead of the opposition and will continue to do so as long as he remains vigilant and aware of his surroundings!
Trust and HUMINT will be the deciding factors on whether or not he will ever be caught and patience is the order of the day on this subject! It will take a few more headached before he might be captured.

What will be it’s primary mission? Will it be able to assist SF in conducting shallow water missions or will stricly be used for coastal water patrols?
It is an incredible design. The Swedes havbe been on a role to design new ships for their armed forces.
The HLCAC might face stiff competition from this High Speed Landing Craft Utility design http://www.systems.textron.com/pdf/products/lcur_datasheet.pdf
I think hovercraft are great but in my opinion if you want a large heavy lift capability it might be better to start thinking about amphibious Ekranoplan/Wing In Ground effect aircraft that can fly faster and for greater distances and avoid bad weather ship unloading operations by operating from distant shore bases.
I’m thinking of a C-17 sized, Pelican style Ekranoplan with a air cushion landing gear. Pelican info http://www.boeing.com/news/frontiers/archive/2002/september/i_pw.html
SteveO, the design of this waterjet landing-craft seems to be the best option if the LCACs were ever to be replaced. However, I do believe the USMC enjoy the logistics offered by these vehicles. The HSLCU does look like a viable option to maybe supplement the LCACs. Could this transport be a serious design which may see the light of day or will it be another stillborn? Cheers! Irwan
This is interesting considering the fact that Russia’s military is still trying to recuparate from years of neglect by the government. However, this is an intersting development! Could this mean that we will see new Su-33s or maybe even a new fighter for these carriers?
Joyeux Anniversaire! Joyeux Noel! Meilleurs Voeux pour le nouvel an! Irwan ๐
