You`ve done really well Elliot, to pool all that stuff together..You were probably told “you`ll never find any Whitley Stuff”.The stuff is out there if you want to put in the mileage and pay through the nose for it.
25 Feet of Fuselage…….!!!!! from where ?
I`ve found the location of that Halifax that crashed after being abandoned to run out of fuel….2 miles from me.
You`ve probably been asked this a million times Elliot, but how much Whitley is there surviving? you`ve done some pretty substantial recoveries…Well Done !!
Hi Eddie,The DF loop was controlled by a three pronged handwheel directly fitted to the bottom of the DF loop tube, the degree scale being around an aluminium drum above the hand wheel. This was fitted to the left hand side of the Nav above his head. The Stirling and Halifax were fitted with the teleflex system as the DF loop was position out of reach of the Navs position. The remote DF loop stuff is around but scarce.the Lanc type I had years ago and is now fitted in Jeremy Halls Lanc nose section,it`s the only `loose one` I`d ever seen…and cost me ALOT of money even 15 years ago..GOOD LUCK !!
See Ya There A.M. !!!
Hi Martin,
Yes i noticed it, so the Venhuizen Stirling has finally come home to the UK,
I know it was expensive (that’s an understatement) but in the end it’s original and will be used in a Stirling cockpit and not collecting dust in a private collection. That’s also the general direct my Halifax control column came from. And now that the TU Delft control column has returned as well, The Netherlands has no original ones left;)
Cheers
Cees
The Control column being back over in the U.K. is paying dividends already,The Stirling Projects Drawing officer spent hours yesterday measuring the columns floor section. My armoured head plate was also measured up so within weeks of these items being in the U.K. there`s two projects benefitting from a wealth of information.Your right Cees ,better than gathering dust in a store room somewhere.I`d quite like to set up a web page logging every bit of Stirling still surviving with photos of all the said items.Of course this would be providing the the owners of the artefacts would give permission to photo and feature them.Imagine one data base with ALL the surviving parts on !!,from the bits I`ve seen I think everyone would be very surprised just how many Stirling parts are out there. No sadly not a complete aircraft but hundreds of parts !!!!
Well Done for remembering Der,I asked the kids what they did at school for St. Georges Day today and they looked at me blank……they celebrated St. Patricks Day though !!.

Ohhhh lovely Twin Mid-Uppers
Come off it Tangmere,we all know the Dambusting Stirlings were fitted with Chinese engines !!
Its a shame they can`t build a full scale Stirling to the same standard as the Lancs.
That`s a nice bit Cees !!!
My daughters friend came over the other day and noticing my military books she announced ” my Dad was in the Army !!” , ” oh really, which Regiment?” I asked…… “Salvation” came the reply.
