when did the British army let you walk around with 3 days growth and sport a mop of hair like that?’
When you have left? 🙂
you know what?, I thought exactly the same!, when did the British army let you walk around with 3 days growth and sport a mop of hair like that?
Dreadful, whetever next eh? Chaps wandering around with their top buttons undone or some such scruffiness? 🙂
The South Africans also tried approaching him for parts and initial attempts were encouraging – but when they arrived in Cyprus suddenly the price went through the roof again.
Looks like someone has had a couple of props, what was the story there I wonder?
Carlisle, Cumbria.
East Fortune had the Strathallen T.4 on their doorstep and nothing happened! As a national museum they would at that time had the opportunity to have a Shackleton effectively gifted ! For whatever reason it didn’t happen so there doesn’t appear to have been a strong interest in doing anything.
They possibly thought that a T.4 was not representative and that they might have had an AEW delivered foc? (When did the runways at East Fortune go out of use?)
Such a dreadful waste of two beautiful aircraft.
A dreadful waste yes, beautiful … er … ! 🙂
I do indeed, that’s why my next transatlantic flight in a few days is going to be 1) by Virgin and 2) in a 747
Bon voyage.

(point being that no aircraft or operator is immune from technical hitches)
Wonder if he has the same opinion of BAs B777 fleet?
It will be interesting to hear what it goes for.
Good to hear that he is still with us. Someone needs to edit Wikipedia!

Glad all OK.
Remarkable name of eyewitness;
Eyewitness Reggie Bugmuncher said she was waiting at a gate for her flight when she heard people saying: “Oh, my God.”
Damn … that’s a another page torn out of ‘the book’ … !
(Seriously, glad all ok and damage as minimal as possible)
Interestingly the registration GPC671 draws a blank on the DVLA registration check
Didn’t buy the sun even before Hillsboro, certainly don’t now.
I believe the aircraft was recovered to a runway by using the undercarriage to control direction of flight.
It seems that the individual legs were retracted and extended in a sequence to control the direction of flight along with the use of the remaining control surfaces.
Would they not have used engine thrust to control direction?
