The Avon engine was evolved from an unsuccessful attempt called AJ65.

Was the AJ65 unsuccessful as such, or was it just a development type which evolved?

Did the Russians have the capability of crossing anything wider than a river with their forces? I don’t believe that they did at that time, thus were not a credible threat to the home islands.

Didn’t realise the Tempest had an inline engine. Always thought it had a radial.
Presumably enough Napier Sabre engines survive to make a few complete ones?

Both varieties exist.

Was the engine damaged or did she get shut down early enough?

I doubt that anyone could answer that with any degree of certainty, except the Engineer who gets to strip it down?
