    Fascinating, thanks for sharing it.

The rest of the B-17 crew were rescued five months later.

    5 Months???

There’s been some storms and very high tides around here recently – which beach were you at?

    Findhorn area?

I’m trying to understand the implications? There is so much literature out there already about the Dambusters… what is the competitive reasoning?

Probably just to stop anyone else doing it.

Was at North East of Scotland at a coastal area where a lot of ww2 aircraft crashed into the sea (apparently) last year I found a washed up part of a wellington bomber airframe. Roughly the same area, maybe quarter mile apart I find these parts today. Can anyone confirm they are actually aircraft pieces? all 3 have traces of black paint.

the big piece is nearly 4 foot in length and only just managed to fit in the back of the car.

What’s that door off? I can’t match it with anything ….

Regret to advise that Mr Francis passed away about 5 years ago, but his neice is going to ask the family for any history of his ownership of the Spitfire especially with regards to its move back to the West Midlands.

Mr Francis’ neice is unsure whether the (real) Spitfire was ever at the garage; she thinks that it was kept at or near his home at all times.

I think that the first one I saw would have been one of the PR.XIXs of BBMF flying over our house on its way to a St Mawgan airshow in the early/mid 70s … in formation with the Lancaster and a Hurricane, triple whammy 🙂

    Science Museum or IWM, 61 – 62 I guess.

Thats a good point; I would have seen the Science Museum one before I saw one fly …

I think that at the time I would probably have been more impressed (at the Science Museum) with this 🙂

    Hi Gents,

Thanks forthe replies! If it is not possible to obtain the real thing, does anyone know of a company that might be able to supply/build a good looking replica? Did they use replica 111 in the BoB movie or any other movie?

    Regards,

    Mathieu.

The BofB moviie used Spanish CASA 2.111s.

Is it possibly fall out from the somewhat tiresome “keep calm and (insert drivel of choice here)” which apparently was registered as a trade mark or copyright quite recently by an individual who had no connection with the 1940s Ministry of Information?

Did the FE bit refer to ‘Far East’ by chance? Was this the type modified for Tiger Force duties?
